Lindley Overdrive Special

Post by Funkalicousgroove »

I found this cool pic of David Lindley's ODS, I think it's a pretty early version judging by the cabinet and the gold face plate

I like naturally reliced guitars and amps.

Those national Dynamic lap steels from the late40's are GREAT, I have a national new Yorker same era, it NAILS that tone on "Running on Empty".

Speaking of "Running on Empty", what sort of circuit was that? Non-HRM with the 100k/1.5k values and the non-Skyliner stack?

Cool looking rig. What type of p'up is in the lap steel? And what do the knobs do...just volume and tone? I have an old mother-of-toilet-seat Dickerson Lap Steel guitar with the matching amp...it's just a little 1x6V6 1x8" amp that originally had all metal envelope tubes and a field-coil speaker (now has an OT and a Jensen Special Design speaker). I assume it's from the 1940s. But this old Lap Steel sounds great...it uses a single-coil but it has a unique tone...and the Tone knobs works fantastic...the 'woman tone growl' when you roll it back is awesome. Originally intended for 110vac...the voltages are quite high in this amp...like ~450vdc using a 5Y3 IIRC...for some reason I have a 5V4G in it in this picture (I tried it with a GZ34 once , it sounded fantastic but I only ran it for a few minutes like that...I can't remember the plate voltage but it was close to 500vdc). Plate runs slightly cherry with a 5Y3. Totally PTP inside.

It's all in really good condition, especially the guitar...that MOTS seems to hold up pretty well.

The P/U in the Nat'l is stock, early 50's vintage. I believe Jason Lollar makes a copy of it. It's not as cool sounding as a Ricky by any means.

El Rayo X is good, but in the typical lindley style, a bit campy. David doesn't take anything seriously!!

BTW The reggae version of wherewolves of london makes it all worth it!!
