Bonamassa-Dumbles 2018
Just came across this and found it very interesting.
My friend and I came to the same conclusions about the Celestion G12 Classic lead 80. He has three of my amps and we've put that same speaker in all the cabinets, be it combo's or cabs. Also he prefers the 50w amps to the 100's as well. We've both been experimenting with stacking the Dumble amps with other amps too so it's funny that Joe has ended up with a similar setup.
I thought it funny when he talked about the Dumble speaker cab, saying the ports were cardboard packing tubes painted black also interesting that he's using the classic lead 80 in the ported cab too.
enjoy some fine classic rock guitar tones

Great video, thanks for sharing Marcus
JB seems to set both Dumbles at the Jazz..he mentioned 85W Celestion speakers. Is it the G12K-85?
I think the silverface is #80 which was discussed here.

JB mentions 85W speakers several times and the classic lead 80 is actually 80W
I think he is using something else

Re: Bonamassa-Dumbles 2018
You're right.
That's interesting because he's using 50w amps and from my own experience on Jazz settings the loose a hell of a lot of gain, so, imagine balancing that with two tweed twins that are dimed, the twins would blow them out of the water on Jazz setting level wise but when he goes between them the levels are pretty consistent.
regarding the speakers, I always thought Joe used Classic lead 80's and has for some time. He may have recently changed then to a new one or they've made a JM speaker possibly based on that.
edit: the speakers are JB signature 85w ceramic for the twin, which I would say is based on the classic lead 80 as I said.
I'm going to fire up my #102 on Jazz, grab a Les Paul and see how it sounds
very interesting.

Yes you got it right re the speakers.

The ’59 Twin-Amp JB Edition will be in stores soon. Other deviations from 1959 spec are matters of preference: instead of the alnico Jensen P12N drivers that were prone to blowing in the original models, the amp features a pair of slightly modified Celestion Classic Lead 80s

Re: Bonamassa-Dumbles 2018
Just re visited this and the two sets of amps do sound well balanced volume wise. Obviously the Dumbles are on the OD and the master's are around 2 O' clock, so not dimed and on the jazz setting. I still can't see how they'd be anywhere near as loud as a dimed twin.
An 80w non master volume amp dimed against a 50 w master volume amp, with master turned down and on the low gain jazz setting.....curiouser and curiouser…...

Unless Joe is linear boosting those 50w Dumbles using his effect devices.

That was standard operating procedure for the time, you'll see the same in big JBL studio monitors, except they're painted blue instead of black.norburybrook wrote: ↑Sun Aug 26, 2018 5:28 pm

I like the bit about people expecting "overplaying over blues changes".

Maybe two 50w low plate classic combos. I like that. Bonamassa has kind of a Tarantino meets Woody Allen vibe. Marcus, master on one is past 12 o'clock and the other one is about 3 o'clock (I see you did mention that). That is pretty turned up in my opinion.
