CL2 and OD1 couplers

Post by Fischerman »

Looking at all the various schematics I see several values for the CL2 and OD1 couplers. I'm not even sure what the 'standard' values are here but they seem to be .05uF and .01uF respectively. I often see smaller values for both (don't recall ever seeing larger), especially the OD1 coupler. Some go as low as .001uF and it appears that HRM calls for the smaller values. I imagine the CL tone stack and whether it's usually run with PAB on/off has a big affect on what works best. In any case, I would guess that it all comes down to the final tweaking for the player/rig/etc.

My question is about how those couplers affect the OD tone. I can see how the CL2 coupler would affect the clean and of course the OD coupler doesn't affect clean. The amp I'm just now finishing has a Skyliner TS and HRM w/ BM PI and EL34/KT77...I plan on starting with .047 for CL2 and .002 for OD1. Do those values sound like a good starting point? If it's too fat/farty/etc. , which one would you lower first?

And secondly, how do I get my converted VISIO files to look good? I usually just convert them to jpeg but they look like shit...the VISIO files posted here look perfect.

TIA!

One option is to install CutePDF and print the Visio to a PDF. CutePDF is a printer driver that outputs a PDF file. Works great, and it's free.
Wife: How many amps do you need?
Me: Just one more...

You should only use jpeg for photos. Use gif or png for technical drawings with few colors (if you want a non-vector format).

VISIO can make some decent drawings but it always seems to respond exactly opposite the way I intuitively want it to.

Oh yea...I forgot to mention that those voltages listed on the schematics posted above were leftovers from another amp (I just took that old schematic and started doctoring it up)...I intend to put the actual voltages there but my amp isn't finished yet.
