D'lite build - parts question
Hi,
Just wondering if someone might have an idea where to get a couple parts. I'm building a D'Lite amp, and in my normal parts sources (CE Dist., Ampwares.com and the hoffman website) I can't find a couple pots. I'm looking for a 2K linear taper pot for the presence control. I'm using Alpha pots, but don't see an Alpha on any of these sites of that value. 5K, yes. Not 2K.
The other thing I'm trying to locate is a 100k trimpot.
Any suggestions?
Thanks for your help,
Mark.

Re: D'lite build - parts question
Mouser has 2k linear pots. Just ordered some the other day.
Thanks,
Andy
Thanks,
Andy
Re: D'lite build - parts question
Andy, can I ask a couple questions?
Is there a minimum order with Mouser?
Also, I was looking at their website and see Alpha pots (which is what I wanted to buy from CE Dist or one of the other sites). Just curious if you bought Alpha's, and if so do you know which ones on Mouser are equivalent to the typical ones amp parts places like Hoffman, or CE Dist, or AES, or ampwares sells?
Thanks. Just not very familiar with ordering from Mouser.
Mark.

Re: D'lite build - parts question
Hey Mark,
No minimum order requirement at Mouser for most things. Some small items (like resistors) have a nominal (like...10 items) minimum.
I believe that the 31V**** Alpha pots at Mouser are the "standard" seen at other distributors. If not, they are so close that I can't see/hear the difference.
The 2KB (lin) presence pot would be P/N 31VA302-F at Mouser.
Also, check out the Mouser Project Manager routine. It is a very slick way to "build up" an order over time for those of us that do a lot of pondering before purchase. Just keep an eye on the quantity column. I have come back to a project in works a few days later and found that the quantities had curiously increased by ~50% on a number of occasions.
Good luck!

Re: D'lite build - parts question
Hey, Dave.
Thanks a million for the info! And thanks for the tip on the project manager tool. I've been doing this in an excell spreadsheet, going with 3 or 4 vendors trying to get the lowest prices... which is probably taking way too much time, but yes, I'm one of those guys who have to ponder
I'm curious to check out other parts at Mouser. I wonder if they have better prices on caps and other parts than what I can get through CE Dist.
Cheers,
Mark.

Re: D'lite build - parts question
I personally have found that going with the cheapest price from a bunch of different places almost always costs me more money... shipping factors in heavily anymore in the overall cost of things. For most of the components like resistors and capacitors and the like I stick with Mouser. Sockets and switches and stuff I generally source from the cheapest source for what I'm looking for though... I try and keep it to two maybe three suppliers to save on shipping charges...

Speaking of sockets, anyone know the best source for 3/4" 9 pin w/shield and 1&1/16 " 8 pin (not the chinese with goofy separate mounting ring).

My pleasure Mark!
Note that you can import an excel spread sheet directly into Mouser's Project manager so all of your efforts to date are still very useful. Just insert a column in your "master sheet" to sort by (I typically use "Vendor Name"), copy the master sheet to a new sheet, sort by vendor name (Mouser), delete everything else that isn't needed and upload to Project Manager.
I am definitely with Andy. Three or fewer vendors per project seems to be the magic number when you start considering shipping/handling costs.
I prefer Hoffman for tube sockets. Great quality, reasonably priced and lightening fast shipment.
I only do a couple o'three projects a year as a hobbyist so fighting to save the last nickel isn't a driving force. However, I still feel the need to execute due diligence to a certain extent so I always poke around to see what I can find. I always end up seeing/learning new things during the pondering process so it is worth the time spent to me.

I really like the Belton 9pin sockets, I get them from CE. If you don't want a ton of the 8 pin sockets I have some NOS AMPHENOL black phenolic's that I'd let you have for $5ea, they drop right in a fender chassis.heisthl wrote:Speaking of sockets, anyone know the best source for 3/4" 9 pin w/shield and 1&1/16 " 8 pin (not the chinese with goofy separate mounting ring).
