Ed,

Welcome to the TAG world. The Eagle project was created for guys like you and I. A usable amp to introduce the craft to new amp builders and for me a simple platform to learn a little more about tube amp fundamentals. Your questions take us directly toward those goals. Your amp behavior sounds like (somewhat literally) another one that was posted on earlier in this thread and I think there has been some work progressing behind the scenes on that so I'll see if we can bring out any findings and solutions.

Those photos help a bit to see your build... I think they are basically the same perspective but one seems a little clearer. Can you also give us a look at the top side of the amp and maybe the rest of the guts? That will probably get some technical discussion going on these.

Which transformer set did you use? I'd like to verify the voltage and current specifications.

Hopefully we'll get some discussion going on this that will help you. You should be able to do most of the trouble shooting with a volt meter and your ears but if you had a scope available to you then you could really dial this thing in.

I am on the road right now which is often the case for me but this time it is for a vacation in warmer places. I do have my Eagle 100 on the bench at the shop with plans for tweaking on it when I return. Unfortunately (well sorta) I won't be back in the shop much until after the Thanksgiving Holiday. When I do get there, we can compare notes and see what kind of tones we can draw out of your amp. In the meantime maybe some of the real tone gurus will help you out. I'll have net and email contact so please post up what you can and I'll follow along and contribute as we go.

I live nearby I55 and rte83. If you want I might be able to swing by and check it out. I built one of these (the supre) but its no longer a supre anymore as I've modded the heck out of it. But I can be a fresh pair of eyes and I have a scope.

Cool, you guys will no doubt raise the bar for the rest of us by the time you're done.
