What could I build with this?

Post by dayn »

I need to venture out into buildign an amp, not just lurking and seeing all of the cool things you guys are able to put together!

I have this old radio chassis. Any ideas on what I can do with it? Maybe a hot-rodded champ?

Boy I don't know about that one.
It was built to use a field coil speaker so there isn't an output transformer.

All 6 volt tubes.

I know there are guys here that build amps using the octal preamp tubes but I'm not sure which amp would work the best with what you have.

The chassis isn't too guitar amp friendly as well.

Have you attempted to find a schematic for it?

Don't let that smoke out!

A choke replaces the field coil and different speaker naturally. But an amp can be built.

Not yet. I will work on that.

I was thinking of using the octal preamp tubes if I could find a single-ended amp schematic that uses them.

Here are some Gibson's that use some of your tubes.

I like the Les Paul Junior the best.

A radio? Lol. I'm not sure strip it for parts and see what you've got.

Ooh, I'd build something with that just for the sake of using that tube shield that looks like an old upside down garbage can. I've a few old radio chassis that I keep only for the sake of reusing the ventilated tube shields and oddball transformer covers.

Before this gets too far - does it have any merit as a radio? I don't know my way around that market, but some old sets are worth $$ - maybe even enough $$ to buy the parts for the amp you want to build.

Just a thought...

NOS tubes always bring $$$

You'll have to check if the unit has a collectors value.

You could think ahead and sit on the thing as is for 5 to 10 years, then see.
