Hi
I just bought a 1979 50 watt custom combo hiwatt
it has partrige transformers and seems all original.
I paid $1250
doe any have any mods for this amp such as how to jump the two channels?
It came with an old EV12L is this a good speaker match?
I was thinking about replacing it with a celestian alnico gold?
Any one have a schematic?
Thanks

realise that the speaker you use influences greatly ( in the most way) the sound of your amp.
The electro-voice speaker is very good, but sounds completely different from a Celestion gold.
I've tried a lot of brands, JBL, Electro-voice, Celestion, Jensen, Fane)
The use of a brand differs, a lot; do you want clean, crunch, distorsion, etc.
I prefer Celestion (Blu, Gold, G12H, G12M, but that is taste.
The wattage of the Hiwatt is on the upper range of the Celestion gold.
It will sound very nice but if you play at high levels, I think you better place a Fane AXA 12 alnico blue.
In the 60's I saw that speaker in Hiwatt amp's.
Tip: experiment, borrow different speakers (amp's) from friends, clic your HIwatt to different speakers and find out yourself what you like most. Then buy the wanted speaker.

And take that EV and put it in a good 1 x 12 cab. You'll be very happy.
