Bayonet style lamps
I normally use 120 volt cheap panel lights from RadioShack for my panel lights on my amps but I have some bayonet style nice lamps I'd like to use I'm wondering what's the best way to wire them? I have 6.3 volt number 44 radio bulbs and I'm not using the rectifier taps on my trans power transformer in the build so I'm wondering is this the best way to go is to use the rectifier taps?

Re: Bayonet style lamps
Just run it in parallel with the heaters. Keep in mind the #44 bulb draws 250ma, but I doubt it will matter.

No harm in running your 44's from a 5V tap. A little less bright, & no chance you're going to overload that winding with 250 mA. The lower voltage should help the lamp last a long time.
I find Radio Shack #47 lamps don't last very long in use, a couple weeks, maybe months. FWIW I stock CM 755 rated to last way longer, so far never have had to replace one.

Another bulb option is to use the LED equivalent 44/47 bulb. Awhile back I grabbed a dozen for $5 shipped from eBay.

LED pilot lamp equivalents have been in Mouser & I'm sure other catalogs a while, but expensive, that's why I turned to 755's. At the price ToneMerc mentioned, now that's a good deal!rp wrote:always learning something new.ToneMerc wrote:LED equivalent 44/47 bulb

Fender uses #47, BA9S base, T3-1/4 miniature bayonet style, 6.3 Volt .15 Amp 0.945 Watt bulbs.
There are several good LED equivalents, in both 6V and 120V. I like to use this 125V socket, which fits in the same hole as the open-style fender socket, and uses the same screw-in jewels:

If you use the 120V LED, it can make wiring from the power switch much easier and neater than using the heater wires, depending on your chassis layout. Here is an example:

I get mine at superbright LEDs. I like the ones with 4 little LEDs best, and you can mix and match LED and jewel colors to get some cool looks:

edit: The pic shows a slightly different socket, but it still shows how you can wire a 120V led pilot lamp directly off the power switch.

Leo, the Mouser prices are crazy. Here's a 25 piece listing for the type of bulbs that I picked up, 6.3V pinball LED bulbs.

Dang! Too late to save me this time around, I got 100 755's last year. Will have to stock up on the LED lamps you're kind to point out next time around. Only 90 755's left to go... Thank you Mike, others can benefit from your advice here too I'm sure.ToneMerc wrote:Leo, the Mouser prices are crazy. Pretty sure it is the same as Robben's #102.
