Single Ended and Push Pull in One Amp

Post by Structo »

Has anybody built an amp that had both SE and PP output?

I see BYOC has a kit called the Tweed Royal.

I built one 2 months ago. Tweedle dee design with both PP SE transformers as in byoc. Works great - I like SE a lot in this design. Instead of rotary switch I used 4pdt switch and standby.

Hey thanks!

I have a Tweedle that I built earlier this year.

It's still a work in progress as I was changing things (probably too much).

It may be the perfect test bed for this.

Cool. Try it and let Us know what You think.
I really dig this amp - especially clean in SE - Very clear 3D sound ;-).
I made few mods as tweed royal. Cut is particularly helpful. Other mods EF86, one tube reverb, No load tone, low b+ switch. I couldn't get those special pots as tweed royal. So I used normal pots and mod them. IF You break wiper path in right place You have tone -no load. IF You break main resistive path right you will get spdt Cut pot ;-) Works great for me
I don't think it is possible for DIYer to built an amp stock. We always want something unique. Good luck

Hi,

The Kevin O'Conner "body control" will do SE, PP, and any degree in between.

I built an amp after Kefin's Soma Amp in his book The Ultimate Tone Vol 5 in a Tweed Tremolux chassis, the amp can also use any 8 pin power tube tubes. The Power X-Former is a Hammond, the OT is a MM Tweed Deluxe.

There is an improved version of the circuit in TUT Vol 6, and the original in TUT Vol 1. which Peavy ripped off (and Patented! by reversing the control circuit called "Texture Control") which is the former also in TUT 6.

The Body control besides being cool sounds better (no hum) than convetional SE.

Best regards,

Steve

PS It was very easy to implement, just needed a resistor and a pot.
