Midpot to 50k and a question

Post by angelodp »

Hi, I see a mod with the Midpot on a Marshall 100W SL up to 50kL with a resistor across the input and wiper. Am I seeing this correctly 47k R Yellow, Purple, Orange?

Can I please ask for an explanation of what that R is doing through the sweep?

The resistor will make the pot look like a 25k (or very close to it) value at one extreme and then modify the taper:

Thanks Mike, do you see a 47k in terms of color? This seems to be making the pot more linear?

I'm horrible at reading resistor colors. But, it would make a whole lot of sense for it to be a 47k resistor. When the 50k pot is all the way up, the circuit looks just like (or very very close to) a stock 25k pot. (47k in parallel with 50k).

One small change... Instead of saying "yellow/purple/orange", you should say "yellow/violet/orange". Purple is not on the color charts.

It should be noted that with a mod like this you will have more mids, but less of a range of adjustability over those mids.
