My fault maybe?
This is frustrating, anyway.
I can use a text editor prior to posting, but couldn't the time before disconnecting a user be changed to something longer - provided it is both easy enough to achieve and desirable?
There's an option to keep yourself logged in permanently, so you won't time out. I don't suggest you use this unless you're on a computer you don't trust, but it's a good start to about that annoyance
Not sure what you mean by can't send PM's? PM's still work, but they don't email notifications, so the only way you see them is to login and check. I'll send you one, you should see the PM and be able to reply to mine.
Those in the 'outbox' just mean you've sent them and the person hasn't yet read them. It's counter intuitive, I know, goes against everything about what the 'outbox' is in email, but eh.
I'm on the Aussie Guitar Gear Head forum, joined there 18 months ago or so. They don't send out pm notifications either, so imagine my surprise when I was clicking through options to find a PM from a member raving about a Scumback he bought that sounded just like his old pre rola Greenbacks.
Too bad he wrote me that PM in July of 2017, and I answered him back a week ago! He probably thinks I'm a jerk or way too busy to check my PM messages. Personally I prefer email, PM messages can get lost in a server upgrade, etc and PM's wind up being a pain to track if it's a long discussion.
Yeah the PM came and I replied. Also I agree that you can't count on bulletin board software as a 'delivery guarantee'. In the case of this forum the email isn't setup right, and I don't have control over the domain to fix that, and the owner of the domain doesn't want to do it, so things will remain as they are for the time being. I asked him if he'd let me fix it but he wasn't interested. I'd just make sure you get an email address from anyone you want to work with so you can guarantee delivery...

On the AGGH forum, email notifications can be altered in your profile settings, under "Personal Messaging". This feature is normally on by default, so it must have been disabled during your account set up. You can change it back, or I can change it for you.
