I've been a lurker here for some time. I really enjoy reading such a wealth of knowledge and experience. You guys really are amazing in how you give of your time to help others. I am ever learning in the process.
Well I thought I would post some pics of my first build, from quite a few years ago. They were right when they said you have to learn how to play this amp. For such a simple circuit, it is quite a little beast.
I would recommend the 5E3 as a first build, you can't go wrong.
The chassis was a thrift store find. OT from Hammond M3. I like to repurpose stuff. I added VVR later on, highly recommended.
It's no thing of beauty to look at, the beauty is in the sound.
Gutshots may look messy to some, but it is quiet.
Best Regards,
Denny

Re: 5E3 bits and beaks build
The 5E3 has four inputs and two volume controls? What did you build?
Electronic equipment is designed using facts and mathematics, not opinion and dogma.
Re: 5E3 bits and beaks build
Yeah. Without the two channel/four inputs, you don't get the 5E3 interaction.vibratoking wrote:The 5E3 has four inputs and two volume controls? What did you build?
Re: 5E3 bits and beaks build
Weirder still is the 5D8 Twin; the low input is phase cancelled. Copying Fender amps is hard because they tweaked things without changing the schematics or layouts. Gerald Weber's first 5E3 followed the published layout, but had to be changed for stability {not the way he wrote about later].
Re: 5E3 bits and beaks build
Well, I paralleled the 2 triodes.
I know it's not authentic, but I like the sound.
I also lowered the coupling cap values to reduce the woofiness.
I believe all the .1 to .022
I know I really should add the 2nd volume to experience that part of the magic.
One day...
