60w Rocket Reverb EL34
Just not happy unless I'm cutting holes and making a mess.
Latest project is TW Rocket Reverb EL34 into a custom 19" chassis that will be in a donor combo cabinet (Deluxe 90 SS amp). Using 50/50 JJ can cap and 40-20-20-20 JJ can cap. Hammond 158L choke, fender reverb driver and MC trannies.
Hope to finish it up this week but maybe not.

Re: 60w Rocket Reverb EL34
Another good donor is a marshall lead 12 SS amp, find one blow up,and get it cheap. I built an amp in one a little while back. Had a deluxe channel, and a GA40 higher gain click switch for the other channel.
The chassis is huge, lots of room, and one of Dana's trannys i used, fir the SS PT cutout. You could probably put about anything inside that chassis.
Years ago i used one of the small Vox SS amps, changed the baffle to a ten" speaker, and shoehorned an 18 watt marshall into the little vox, think it was called a pathfinder.

What I like about the solid state Deluxe 90 or 100 donor is they come with a celestion G12-100T 4 ohm speaker so you already have something to work with and the cabinet is wood.

sorry, it wasn't a lead 12, it was a valvestate 8080.. it has a big size 1x12 cab..and celestion.

Yeah that does look like a good donor and the speaker is the same I believe.

Looks good Mark. I am going to have to try those MC iron, so many seem to like them.
60W seems a bit high though, that's like 100% disapation. Wouldn't it be more ~40W, no?

Nice job Mark.
I think I recognize that circuit board.
I have a Line 6 with a pair of Celestion 12's in it that is just waiting for me to get creative.
That looks some He-Man iron for sure. Let us know if you sense any magnetic coupling to that chassis.
60 watts should be audible from across the room. What kind of voltage are going to spank those things with? Are you going to use NOS 6L6GC's or maybe KT-66's? I had a friend with a Marshall 50 that used a pair of 6550's that was to this day the best sounding amp I ever heard live.
Not too far off topic - Does anybody know what you can get out a pair of KT-88's or 6550's?

Re: 60w Rocket Reverb EL34
With 2xKT88's you can go up to 100W with 560Volts on anodes, pretty much, I've heard that KT88 are a little bit stronger than 6550.Not too far off topic - Does anybody know what you can get out a pair of KT-88's or 6550's?
I thought about making 100W 2xKT88 amp, but it would be killer, I will go with 6L6GC ~50W.
Re: 60w Rocket Reverb EL34
Actually your correct this amp is going to use EL34's I posted that incorrectly. Probably because my past builds were all 6L6, sorry.
I will post the voltages and iron specs tonight.
I edited the post and subject line sorry about the confusion.

Re: 60w Rocket Reverb EL34
rj,
A year or so back, I built an Express combo amp into a Line6 212 Eminence loaded cabinet. I did that after Dana (UR12) had built one an Express combo.
It has a good bark with those speakers but I would like to put the Line6 back in since it still works and send it down the road to some kid that likes modeling amps complete with pedal board. I can't believe I used to gig with that amp and what I paid for the board $375 and amp $950 I should have been whipped. This is the original Line6 Flextone 100w 212.
I would now like to go with a smaller 18w 212 combo cabinet.

Re: 60w Rocket Reverb EL34
Ah crap I see I got the B+1 wired to the wrong cap it needs to go to the 50/50 cap not the 40uf on the other cap. I'll replace this gut shot photo when I get it wired up.

Re: 60w Rocket Reverb EL34
The PT is MC 40-18029 which has either 710 or 610 CT so either 355-0-355v verses 305-0-305v secondary.
The OT is MC 40-18001 4k2 primary with 4/8/16 secondary 60w rating.
Got a question on the PT primary for wiring 120v is it the blk and blk/wht?

Re: 60w Rocket Reverb EL34
Don't quote me, but I think you may be able to run those 120v taps in parallel.
I think that is what I did on my D'lite because it had an export PT.

Re: 60w Rocket Reverb EL34
So the blk/wht with brn? Use the outer blk and brn/wht as my 120v main leads
Usually these schematics tell you what to use but I am not familiar with using multi tap PTs.

PT Wiring
Hey Mark - for 120 v primary connect Black & Brown together. Connect Black/White & Brown/White together. This should keep the windings in phase. That's what I've always done with multi-tap primaries anyway.
Looks good by the way.
