Re: SLO build
Hi, avoid that blue tape. The chassis becomes warm and the tape tells you bye bye.
Also, shorten all those wires and make them as straight as possible.

Re: SLO build
I really pray that this thread will come to a good conclusion.
In that, I hope the OP will follow up and tell us about his amp and possibly sound clips would be excellent!
I have loved the SLO sound for years, and I am not even sure I have ever heard one live, so it would be cool if you posted some clips when you are done.
Thanks!

Spark test went good...
I have sound... quick check of voltages and they are in line
some hum to track down but was expected
has something to do with channel switching, OD has a slight hum
Normal channel is humming pretty loud..maybe footswitch
I'm hoping I can track this down and report back.

Re: SLO build
Tracked the humming down to the footswitch jack, grounded it
much quieter now.
Clean channel seems good...crunch switch adds some noise
especially if holding on to the barrel of switch?
OD channel is really muffled and compressed sounding
tube swap made no difference.
will double check values
any suggestions are appreciated

Re: SLO build
Well. Seems I'm in the same boat as you...kind of. My SLO-100 is working fine...on the clean channel. No hum or noise and NO distortion. All my clean/crunch switch does is give me more volume on the Crunch channel. I think you are on the right track checking component values. Although I received a small schematic from Ampclones indicating the missing values for the dc heater mod I still haven't gotten the correct schematic for the mainboard. Still unsure about many of the values on the board. I did get some advice about the BIAS and was able to dial that in. Great amp if you like mellow music...which I don't.

bummer you cant get a schem from the PCB vendor
Not sure if Smash is selling his boards on the SLO forum anymore(maybe PM him) or maybe look at the grabbing the C3 boards and do a rebuild.
just a thought

Re: SLO build
Most likely it tells us that Abube has his own use and design with this board and it is multi-purpose or that he is in over his head with the switching circuit... pick your choice.Sargent wrote:What does that tell you?

Re: SLO build
Grounded the channel switch crunch and bright switch to chassis and
they quieted down a lot...
Still have the muffled OD channel
components seem to check out fine
wondering if grounding all the pots to chassis would make a difference?

Re: SLO build
This is the answer I received from Ampclones...still no mention about the mini relay on the board...
Problem is caused by an error in switching matrix or faulty LDR. Try to bypass second tone stack...desolder and run bypass wire. Also, short LDRs which are part of the OD channel path (on a resistor side of LDR) with the croco clamp to exclude the fact of faulty LDR...
Seems problem is in switching supply. Not entirely sure how to check LDR's but I did supply voltage to + and - with an old 9V battery after removing LDR's and checked resistance on other end with a meter. In each case I received a different resistance up to about 20K in each case most likely due to a drop in voltage of the battery.
Tried his shorting method with an alligator clip and received NO output.
NO new schematic has been sent with all the values present.
Not sure why this posted twice. Got error from first attempt.

Re: SLO build
Sargent
maybe you could start a new thread
so as not to mix up the builds and move too far off topic
hopefully Tom the Mod can move or delete stuff
Thanks

Re: SLO build
Yes, Sarg please start a new thread about your amp.
It becomes confusing when there is another amp in the thread.
Someone will be able to help you more if you start your own thread.
Thanks!

Re: SLO build
Hey Sarge, I wouldn't stop posting...like Tom said, you're more likely to get help if you have your own thread. It just gets a bit confusing with 2 different builds. I'd like to see you get your issues resolved, plus it could help someone else with the same problem down the road!Sargent wrote:I have already decided to stop posting. No need to beat a dead horse!

Re: SLO build
Ditto
Sarge I didn't mean to be offensive, please start another thread on your amp.
We thrive on this stuff and I am sure somebody here can help you.
Peace!
