Original JBL D130
Hi Guys,
Been offered this D130. What do you guys think? Owner said the cone is original (marked as 21057). But... the surround is gooped. I don't believe the original surround of the D130 was "gooped". Herewith are some pics.

The D120's I have are doped, as well as the K130's.

I have a 1970s Dual Showman Reverb cab with 2 x D130F (orange Frame) and those are both doped FWIW

I bought a siverface DR with a D 120f,not sure id it was doped but it is a very speacial amp,did the black face changes and the power cord and this amp is awesome.Super for country and as I bring it up it nails that older ZZ top sound.I would love to be able to afford a set for my twin reverbs.

Re: Original JBL D130
I traded for a UL Twin a while back with the orange frame JBL's, I know most Twins have casters, but this one really needs them!
My plan is to split it up into head/speaker cab.

My understanding is that when the D130 was moded slightly from its 30 watt Hi Fi original form to use for instruments that's when it got the dope.

Re: Original JBL D130
Agree, those speakers have a *long* History.
The original ones were developd in the late 30´s, early 40´s , together with Altec, another James B Lansing early venture, as **the** killer speakers for large Theater/Cinema applications, in the Golden Age of Cinema where no money was spared, Cinemas were generous cash cows when no TV was available and Live Theatre was not massive.
Later on, both advanced speakers (plus drivers, horns, tweeters, cabinets) were used on top of the line Hi Fi and PA equipment, eventually reaching the Guitar world.
Somewhere along that path doping was introduced, so I am not surprised at all at finding both doped and undoped versions, just depending on manufacturing date.

Incidentally, I have a pair of ALTEC 604’s that I use in my workshop/gym. Great sounding speaker originaly used in recording studios and threaters. The bass unit was actually a 16-inch. These speakers have always had doping as long as I can remember
