Classic Tone/Magnetic Components Closing?
Hey Folks,
I just read a rumor that Classic Tone/Magnetic Components is closing down operations. I've sent them an email asking if they are simply restructuring or indeed going out of business. Has anyone here heard about any of this?
Here's a link to the discussion about it, over at the Marshall forum:

Thanks Folks,
Gene

I heard about this too, through a friend in the music business
Re: Classic Tone/Magnetic Components Closing?
heard about it on thegearpage... too bad if true.
Re: Classic Tone/Magnetic Components Closing?
Bummer.
On another note, are you familiar with this guy: https://www.musicalpowersupplies.com/
Years ago I bought from him and was well satisified with the price and the product. I haven't built anything for a few years, so I'm not buying anything!

Re: Classic Tone/Magnetic Components Closing?
I have bought from musicalpowersupplies.com before. Nice product at a nice price. However, Classic Tone just felt like higher quality to me. Can't really quantify it, but I've bought from them recently so it's not a show stopper. I also like Edcor.

pdf64 dropped the rumor at Hoffman's forum. I have not seen any confirmation.

> I've used MPS products and been quite pleased, all around. A friend uses Matt's stuff almost exclusively and swears by the products.
> I have an email into Magnetic Components/Classic Tone and we'll see if I even get a reply to the question of whether or not they are closing.
> One of the suckier aspects of their going away will be the loss of their very well laid out website with fairly detailed specs that are handy for comparisons. How cool would it be if the overpriced "red monster" would provide specs?
Oh Well,

I'm not usually a good source for gossip but it popped up at MEF last week, and I thought it was useful info for anyone thinking of buying transformers in the near future, see this clip from Dave Friedman https://youtu.be/_Yp3uB4keCM?t=4249
Then Andy Fuchs confirmed it at TGP but indicated there may be some hope yet https://www.thegearpage.net/board/index ... t-31329850

Mark on Blueglow Electronics read a letter he got back from Magnetic Components that they were closing.
He just got done designing a new chassis for a group build using Classictone transformers.

LAAAAAAAAME. I love those transformers. Have half a dozen of them or so in my builds. Great pieces. That sucks. Totally sucks.

Re: Classic Tone/Magnetic Components Closing?
Received an e-mail from MagneticComponents today saying they are ceasing operations:
"This notice is much shorter than we had anticipated. This is a result of COVID and a recent and serious supply chain issue that has developed. Overall, in the last 4 years we have seen a large decline in the tube amp transformer market. At the same time, we experienced unprecedented increases in all costs necessitating us to make this tough, final decision to close."
They will be missed, but if there's no profit in it they have no choice.
