Hello guys and gals,
It has been a minute since posting here, but after going to a Dead & Co show I have the urge to build a pedal steel style low watt tube amp for guitar... it seems like the Milkman Sideman has the preamp section built to operate with higher iron transformers than the Milkman Pedal Steel mini but stays at a manageable 50W level for studio and small spaces. I don't need the tremolo circuit unless this adds to the stiffness of the preamp.
Has anyone made this type of circuit, and if not what types of stiff sounding small amp circuits low wattage (50W and below) builds get you colose to ala Jerry Garcia, SSS Mayer.
Also posted this on Hoffman so if double posting is not good let me know
Thanks guys and gals,

Is the Milkman Sideman based on a Dumble design?

Single channel with reverb and trem, tube rectified - more like Fender

Moved to the fender discussion, but I can move to more general place if you'd like like Technical Discussion?

Re: Milkman Sideman type build, tips for preamp, what voltages
Woops ok, glad to have it in proper discussion. I think the gist of my post was to incorporate elements of steel guitar style amps; the Milkman Sideman + SSS came to mind.
If there is insight, I do not intend to copy the Milkman but would like to know what others have done to get their amps "stiffer" if that makes sense in a low wattage platform.
Thank you,
Wolfie

So if you name "low wattage" a 50W amps, it is with respect to the SSS, right?
I'm not quite sure about what you call "stiff" but the Milkman - how appealing it can be - does not sound stiff at all to me, from the demos...
Might a Fender brown-ish pre-amp matted to a SSS-inspired power section be something of what you're after?

Generally speaking increasing capacitance in the supply will stiffen it up. A crisper, tighter feeling response can be had operating at higher voltages/ lower current.
