Yes EL34 heater requires 1.6A vs. 0.9A for 6L6, so a 1.4A increase for a 50W. For a listening experiment, you could get away with going over spec for a short time.
Martin, all my 'Dumble' PT are 6A heater supplies. That would cover 2x El34's and 3xAX7's I presume, just googled and it say's 12AX7 has 150-300mA heater current , so would that be as simple as 1.6x2 plus 300mA x3?
Hope I'm not high jacking this thread....
As the Dumble isn't an amp that OD's the output stage I would expect there's bugger all difference between El34's and 6L6 in an ODS. Wouldn't you think?
Your heater current calc is correct, 2x1.6 + 3x0.3 = 4.1A, so you are fine. Pentodes like EL34 have different transfer characteristics than beam tetrodes like KT66’s and 6L6’s, so there will be some subtle differences between them in sound even if they aren’t overdriven. Might be more noticeable to Hi-Fi types, but some guitarists claim they can hear it. I’ll be interested to get your opinion!

Yes Matt on the winged C killer deal other dealers want $110.00 each
Steve.
I'm in the parts ordering phase of my 100 watt 183 build. I'm all about tone but even this good of a deal still hurst at $240 for 4 of these power tubes.
Has anyone had good results with other EL34s that are still being made?

Thanks,

Grab some JJ's build the amp
Then decide if you want to spend more on tubes
