Re: Hot PT
Our small amps will typically measure 150 degrees Fahrenheit which is very hot to the touch, but the amp runs along happily at that temp.ToneMerc wrote:
My thoughts exactly. It would be nice to know what exactly is " hot hot" though, is it 110 or 150 degrees.

RE: PT amps - our small amps have 2 6L6 and 4 12AX7 and the PT puts out 180ma (Vibrolux spec iron). On our 2 6L6 amps with 6 12AX7 we use Super Reverb spec iron which is 200ma.

Re: Hot PT
150mA does seem low for 2x6L6.
More in line with 2x6V6 current requirements.
Maybe try a bigger power transformer, if real estate is allows.

Re: Hot PT
IMO 150ma is low.. Also IMO if the amp has been on and played a while and you can't keep your hand on it for more than 3 sec it is running a bit hot.
In your case, how long will it last? Several factors will determine this
How well was the transformer built ( in your case)at what percentage is it over spec
How old or how long has it been running hot? How hard you run it and at what temp
Things you might do to help the Xformer?
Increase air circulation
If it's possible go to FW rectifier
Add a filiment transformer
Good Luck
