There's also the debate on 100k vs 220k/150k for a good strat tone... I know that was in one of Gil's threads. He mentioned something about the 220k/150k with the .05uF/100K-B midcap/pot combo with the rest of the amp similar to #124 if I'm not mistaken... thats next on my list of things to build. Just need to get a chassis from Brandon when they become available.

Wow...Seems like a lot of people feel this way. I have heard some decent sounding clips on brownnote's website. I'm thinking of trying the 100k idea like the #124. If I see a heritage 12-65 speaker for cheap I'll try to swipe it up. When I first built the dlite I tried the speakers in my hotrod deville cab 4x10, which sounded alright.

Stelligan,
Nice clip...thanks for sharing. I'll try to post some, when I get some time to record.

I 100% agree, my teles sound great through these types of amps with a Skyliner stack.

I have not tried them in my Bluesmaster configured amp.

My good buddy Bill Holter came over with his nice strat a couple of months ago. He sounded amazing into my Glaswerks in both HRM and non HRM modes. 2X12 w/G1265. He preferred the KT77 tubes with the Strat.

Which one?? (Not all mine. The Wrecks and Strat are Bill H's and the Two Rocks are Bob S's)

PS: Those are real Trainwrecks.

den58,

Thanks, for the compliment. A D'Lite 22 is the most Strat friendly amp of this style that I own. You may want to check the thread with all the tweaks on it before you start.

I really don't have much to add other than agreeing with the concensus. Some Strat settings are better than others but it is way too hard. It is almost as though these amps were designed to repair the drawbacks of humbuckers. As to why Teles are good and Strats not ... no clue. It also flys in the face of my long-held preference for using 10's with Gibsons and 12's with Fenders.

Perhaps it is useful to remember that we aren't comparing production runs like Buicks or Tremolux's. D's were tweaked by the unit to accomodate specific players -- the more famous of whom played low-impedance buckers (don't know how Lowell did it). They are personal enough that it would help to know what the original owner played at the time. These amps were built around the guitar.

2 questions as a follow-up.

Since I don't own a tele can someone explain to me why a tele pu would be different than a strat pu? Aren't they both single coils? Why would a tele sound ok?

Since the strat sounds ok on clean they perhaps only the od section needs tweaking?

Just wondering.

Thanks Stelligan,
I will check for the tweaked info. I believe I've already copied a layout with the tweaks. Thanks again for the clip that helps me to know what version I want to build. I'm pretty new to building, so I'm glad it's the relatively simple build.

Rut
The difference is in the mechanical parts, especially the bridges.
Compared to the strat the tele has more punch and sustain
and is creamier in the low mids. The tele bridge pickup
is a bit beefier than a typical strat pickup too. Hard tail strats
do a little better in the punch and sustain department but where's
the fun? 8)

Wound a little hotter, too. 7+k for a tele bridge, 5.8~ for strat bridge.
