Erwin, that sounds stellar. May I ask, do you have heavy gauge strings and a fairly high action? I find that sort of sound is very revealing of even the slightest fret buzz and you had none. Matt Schofield has a similar sound clean, and runs 11's and quite a high action. Very revealing of poor technique, but you'll not be troubled by that!

It certainly is the best clean amp I ever played, the reverb is very good and enjoyable! It has a bit of a ducking effect, in the decay the verb gets louder!
I might tweak the amp for more bass, even with a 4x12 cab, basically full bass now and I think it can use a bit more.
Talked to Ryan about this and there are 2 spots were the coupling caps can be increased with good results.
Since i am going to build this amp soon (thanks for the great chassis Erwin) i did look at a lot of the scematics and dumble pictures. Regarding the low end: before changing coupling caps, it seems more logical to change the 1uF de-couplingcap to 5uF on the direct signal mixing tube. I noticed you use a 1uF on both mixing stages. On the Japanese schematic there is a 5uF on the reverb side and 1uF on direct, but i think this could be a mistake and should be the other way around. It makes more sense to have a higher roll off frequency for the low end at the reverb mixer, and keep the low end in the direct signal.

Thanks Hywel, I run 10's and have a action that keeps the fretbuzz out as much as possible which some consider high action.
I really like voicing and feel of the SSS: you can hear all subtle nuances in dynamics and picking angle differences. It's a great expression tool for sure!

Hi Richard, thanks for chiming in! Should be easy to try with some jumpered lytics. I"ll let you know in a while.

Fantastic looking and sounding amp, Erwin. I don't want to derail, but wondering if you have tried your amp with a guitar with humbuckers? I know most that build these play Strat type guitars. I would love to hear how a Les Paul would sound.

p.s. Love Matt Schofield! He has amazing tone and feel.

Not yet! I was on a 14 day break. I"ll let you know asap, my Les Paul needs some TLC, my 335 is a nice guinea pig:-)

Matt Schofield is great; I was a few years back at a gig, the guy is flawless, the quality of his live performance equals his cd recordings.

Hi Erwin,

I hope your break was restful in these trying times. I would very much like to hear your thoughts on how a Les Paul and 335 behave with the SSS. I really like the 102 clean channel with Gain on about 6, TMB all on 5 (straight up), Rock mode, Master on 2-3, and Presence on 6. The SSS is a different beast though with that glassy, clear sound. Those cathode followers do a nice trick.

As for Matt Schofield, he is amongst my favorite modern players. l really love a Strat in certain players' hands, and his tone and playing is killer. I hope to get to see him one of these days.

Cheers,
Dave

Sweet build Erwin for sure :D Congrats!!
IMO When you build an 002 with the pi driver they all to me sound and react pretty much the same.Real CLEAN dynamic touch sensitive extended frequency response the percussive pick attack and plenty of fret buzz, the sound is un-mistakeable. A soft touch is all you really need if you try to muscle it too hard it reaches a point where it just becomes wasted energy and the fret buzz gets louder the amp is so clean and all the compression. Here is mine with a touch of A Tube Screamer. Pretty much the same sound same amp (kt 100'S). The action on this Strat was way too high Please ignore the clams
BTW.How do you like the reverb in that amp?

A amp isnt finished as long as it isnt in its housing.
I had a head cab made for me by Elfring(Netherlands).
Great and neat looking head shell
The last months tried some reverb tanks from different vendors. Settled with the accutronics one.

Looks great Erwin!

Good timing too. I just finished mine and need to make the head cab for it. How tall is yours? I've been trying to find information about how much space to leave between the reverb tank and the transformers to keep it quiet.

Hi Erwin

Can you please tell me what that 3k3 resistor is that you have on your cap can? It doesn't appear on any of Ryan's work unless I miss something, and the photo you have of it doesn't show where it's connecting.

Thanks
