Sheesh, were you here? The dad was threatening to beat the kids if they stayed with Grandma. I had a talk with the 13 year old girl the night before they left. The things she told me would have made me punch my dad in the nutsack, especially if he'd been out of work, doing drugs, and they were living on food stamps and other people's garage since she was in 3rd grade.

When they were leaving she took her suitcase to the relative's truck that was taking them to the bus station, and when she walked back she saw me and gave me a hug. I told her "I know this isn't what you wanted. Good luck."

She hugged me harder, then her grandma and left.

Her grandma said the police said "If he beats you, call us. We'll get you back to your grandma."

The question is if the 70 year old grandma can raise her till she's 18, and in what shape the kid will be in if she can call. The whole situation is stupid.

you know, we all grew up hearing about the revolutionary war, independence, and how high the price of freedom is. Most people don't really understand these concepts. We gave up our freedoms and this country changed forever after 9/11. We could have kept everything as it was and shrugged off what happened in defiance. But as a nation we weakened and chose the easy way out. Now this invasiveness has permeated all of our lives. I guess "Give me liberty or give me death" went out the door after 9/11. Patrick Henry is rolling in his grave.

Well, there are still us three, I see.

I am under attack from everyone. All around. Nothing but enemies. The people who want me dead and the others who use that to make me a drone slave to a common purpose that I was not born for.

I'll take my chances with the 12th century, thanks.

The funny thing is the odds of me dying from a terrorist attack are actually much smaller than me being hit by lightning. We average about 50 a year, putting it second to floods in the weather killer category. About 24k die each year worldwide.

But one guy dying from a lightning strike is on page three of the news. Politicians feel pressure from the sheeple and do stupid shit to keep getting elected, rather than trying to educate the masses.

Very few politicians do the 'right' thing anymore. They listen to the public opinion surveys and do what is popular (or what their corporate bosses want).

If economists ran this joint it wouldn't fall apart everytime some jinx got a good idea.

Stats and focus groups must be made of the stupid, by the stupid, for the stupid.

The other thing I believe is a problem is that when the founding fathers were formulating our government, they based much on an informed and intensely individual populace. The original settlers were a pretty independent group. Think about it, leaving Europe for the "New World" isn't that much different than today getting on a spaceship to colonize Mars. Takes a pretty big set, if you know what I mean.

I actually just purchased Ralph Waldo Emerson's "Self Reliance" for my kids to read.

Bottom line is the majority of today's populace just wants to be spoon-fed consumers. Rather than being concerned about what their elected officials are up to, they'd rather hear the latest tidbit about Justin Beaver.

Freedom will only endure with an informed citizenry. Which means we're basically screwed, just like how that experiment in Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy was messed up by a crashed spaceship of hairdressers, tired TV producers, insurance salesmen, personnel officers, security guards, management consultants, and telephone sanitizers from Golgafrincham.

If you want a quick education on this countries death spiral, just search Founding Father quotes. Take about an hour or so reading these.
You'll soon realize, the powers that be are doing the exact opposite of what was originally intended. May be on purpose.

You must have the courage to let go of what you've been told and start believing what you see. The party is over.

I watched the first ten minutes of Full Metal Jacket last night. The political climate makes it feel like it's time to toughen up.

I heard a true fact just a day or so ago.

since 9/11 33 americans have been killed by terrorism within us borders. Its one of the least dangerous death modes in existence.

were clearly focusing on the wrong things.

terrosists == not a treat
drunken college drives == big threat

americas head has gotten so far up its ass it cant pull it out.

noone cares about the facts anymore.

spoken by a true american.
it really is a journey, and you just cant farm out the battle wounds

Yeah. We used to be individual badasses who could take on anything. Now we are mostly dumbasses who wander in herds. Easy to make the frowny face.
