Rocket in progress (finished and up and running)
So I got my parts recently and I've gone to work. This is my first amp so I'm not entirely sure what I'm doing, I'm mainly just copying the layout. Is everything right so far? Here's a pic of what I've done so far:
I'll try and keep it updated

You have an rjguitar chassis which are nice and come prepunched. The tube sockets are positioned correctly and board placement is right though you have to finish the board components yet.
The large bias resistor/cap for the EL84 tubes can be placed however you want drill two holes to mount that.
Just take your time ask questions and make the whole process enjoyable the outcome will be a great playable and toneful amp.

C5, on the layout, is supposed to be 50uF; would a 47uF be acceptable? Would it even make a difference?

That's fine. Electrolytic caps are usually +/-10% anywho.

Up to -20% +80% for standard caps...Electrolytic caps are usually +/-10% anywho.

Yup. I was specifically referring to the "higher quality" electrolytics that we usually use. Even then, my numbers were slightly off. The common Sprague Atom is +/-20%.FYL wrote:Up to -20% +80% for standard caps...Electrolytic caps are usually +/-10% anywho.

At any rate, the 50uf for the 47uf on C5 is normal.

Re: Rocket in progress (finished and up and running)
The yellow wire that goes from C17 to B4 goes to nowhere, it connects to the turret and from there, nowhere, is there a reason for that? That kind of puzzled me.
Also, on the layout there are 4 turrets on the far right, there are only 3 on mine, is there a reason? I would ask RJ but he's out of the country.

Re: Rocket in progress (finished and up and running)
The three turrets are your B3, B4 and B5 posts and are connected under the board did you do that yet? Some boards have four but the fourth turret is not necessary as you can just run a ground wire from the junction of R17/R18 to a ground tab.
That C17 wire goes to B4 then to R6 (B4).

Are you building it "as per" or are you going to use loading resistors on the B+ ?

Aren't those two series 100K/2W resistors on the B+ cap to ground the so-called 'loading resistors' ?strat_addict wrote:As per the layoutpassfan wrote:Are you building it "as per" or are you going to use loading resistors on the B+ ?
Re: Rocket in progress (finished and up and running)
Those are to drain those two power caps after turnoff.

Made a mistake and no one caught it?
Oh well, at least I found it before I went to go solder

I didn't actually think you were done with your board so I didn't look at it that close besides it takes for ever sometimes not at all able to open a picture on TAG. I rarily am able to enlarge or open a picture to view.
Can't load anything using PM mode either I must be on notice.
