John Mayer Custom Reverb Schematic?
Does anyone have the schematic for one of these amps? I would love to take a look at one.
Here's what it says on the Two Rock page:
"We have added elements of the Sterling Signature, Overdrive Signature, and Kimock Signature amps to produce pristine cleans with rich harmonics, as well as a sophisticated all tube spring reverb circuit, tuned to John's ear. We've moved the gain and master controls to the far right side of the front panel, separate from the tone controls and reverb, to allow quick adjustment on the fly.A contour control has been added, allowing global fine tuning of overall output EQ."

Not likely until someone buys one and then sells it.
Re: John Mayer Custom Reverb Schematic?
Here you go!..Not the Mayer version though..

Re: John Mayer Custom Reverb Schematic?
Great. Thank you.
I remember reading somewhere that Two Rock circuits are similar to Fender circuits. I have a 1970 Princeton Reverb amp that I'd like to mod to sound more like a Two Rock. I have an amp tech that would be willing to do anything to the amp as long as I let him know what I want done; that's why I'm asking about the schematic.
Big difference in the tone stack from what I understand.

Re: John Mayer Custom Reverb Schematic?
Thanks M Fowler. Question, can an excellent amp builder/tech look at that picture and know everything that is going on? Not that he'd copy it, but let's say he wanted to, would he be able to or would he need more info?
Re: John Mayer Custom Reverb Schematic?
I wonder what amp that is? The knob placement doesn't look like the TR JM Sig. But I can't place it by the knobs.. It could be a one off?
Re: John Mayer Custom Reverb Schematic?
I believe that is the John Mayer Sig amp.
Unless your tech is very familiar with Dumble circuits he won't be able to figure out the values.
Point him to the Files section, lots of info there.
Some may differ but I don't think a Princeton is a good conversion choice.
The power transformer and output most likely couldn't handle the loads involved in a ODS amp.
Two Rock amps are just tweaked variations of a typical Dumble ODS.
The simple version is this.
There are a few different topologies.
First generation, second gen, third gen. ODS amps.
They kind of evolved as Alexander Dumble refined the designs.
Tone stack - Classic or Skyline
I'm sure other guys will chime in about more differences.
Plate load resistors - 100K (low plate) or high plate values that can vary.
But 220K/150K are popular with the corresponding cathode resistors 3K3/ 2K2
Then there are the HRM (Hot Rubber Monkey) amps which have the post OD tone stack to better tune the OD tone.
The Bluesmaster which is a combination of HRM, Fender and Marshall tweaks.
More of a Rock amp than the ODS, IMHO
Think about what you like about the JM amp and then maybe we can point you to schematics or layouts.

Re: John Mayer Custom Reverb Schematic?
So is it best to use a rumble amp schematic and create the amp. Then, go back in and make the tweaks that Two Rock made.
Re: John Mayer Custom Reverb Schematic?
Not sure what you mean by rumble but just about every generation dumble amp is documented here.

Re: John Mayer Custom Reverb Schematic?
You're not familiar with rumble? Auto-correct on Safari changed it. Doesn't seem to like Dumble.
So here's the deal. I would like a Two Rock type circuit. The cleans on the Two Rock classic reverb that I tried were the best I've ever heard. I have never played Dumble. Are the cleans the same? Ideally, I'm going for that clean John Mayer tone.

Re: John Mayer Custom Reverb Schematic?
Here is the classic Reverb not Mayer's custom amp.
Also custom reverb 50

Re: John Mayer Custom Reverb Schematic?
John Mayer's tone... ah..
I'd recommend a d-style circuit on the amp. If you've researched the subject, then you know he's got the resources. I understand his current setup to be quite elaborate. Using three amps to get his "tone". A SSS (or TR Sterling), his TR Signature, and a Dumble ODS. His signal splits 3 ways into these amps and they're all dialed in just right, not for volume but for tone. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F6POSqjjrIA
But you can approximate his sound with a good Dumble-style amp, reverb, perhaps a few select pedals, and a Stratocaster.
On another note, I really wish he'd open up and document his gear online. I understand that he has possibly the largest collection of Dumble amps of any one person.

Re: John Mayer Custom Reverb Schematic?
LOL - Re-reading that and it sounds a little ridiculous. The intention of that statement was to simply state to not get too hung up on all the variations of the amp. I know the JM sig has some hard-to-find mojo-fortified components and is a single channel amp. Not sure what the major differences are on the classic reverb. All this stuff seems to muddy the water. I think his tone can be achieved with a decent ODS-type amp and stratStructo wrote:Really?brentm wrote:John Mayer's tone... ah..

I obviously have much to learn in the communication dept
