Bonnie Raitt

Post by alvarezh »

Here is a pic out of the latest Premier Guitar issue (April 2012), clearly you can see the ODS, but the article states that she uses a Bad Cat Black Cat 30R.

Better seen here:

Anyone knows who's Dumble is it?

Good weekend to all!

Sorry Jelle, don't know the serial on that one. AFAIK it was built around the same time as Steve Kimock's 50w Dumble ODS serial #86 so between 86 and #100

No matter what amp she uses she sounds like Bonnie. Love it...

2 recordings years apart, guitar sounds the same, the voice sounds the same.

I remember reading somewhere it was Lowell George who turned her on to using dual compressors, I think you'll hear a similarity in her and Lowell's slide sound. Not sure who was Dumbled first, but I suspect it was Lowell. She's always been really cool though, I've been a fan for a long time. I must admit these days Mr Trucks bride Susan Tedesche has turned my head a bit..

Don

Greg, this isn't a 2nd generation ODS amp with a "pre-classic" tone stack, a funky OD entrance, no snubbers, no ratio control and an accent switch like this one e.g.: http://ampgarage.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12870

This ODS amp is in fact a typical "transition generation" ODS amp with a "classic" tone stack, a "trigger" OD entrance, snubbers and a ratio control. Most of these transition generation amps I know with still an accent switch have a "low plate classic" circuit like this one: http://ampgarage.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12872 but of course with the exception of the presence control. But you'll find "transition generation" amps with a "high plate classic" circuit, too. #0094 is an example for such a "high plate classic" transition generation amp.

Some of these transition generation ODS amps have the ratio control on the back and a full grown presence control on the front, like #0075 of Steve Farris e.g.

Some have the ratio control on the front and still have an accent switch, like #093 e.g. (this is the version of an transition generation ODS Bonnie Raitt is pictured with here).

Some have the ratio control on the front and a small presence contol on the front, like #0094 e.g.

I've attached some pictures: The first one shows a real 2nd generation ODS. The other pictures show some versions of the "transition generation" ODS amps.

Cheers,

Max

Max,
Do you know if Bonnie's amp is low plate classic or high plate classic?

I played one of these transition 'Sesame Street' font ODS amps. It sounded like a low plate. The cleans were very nice, and the OD was plain awesome, to me at least. I loved it. It screamed! :D

Sorry, not much more to add to this discussion....
