Recommended parts and suppliers

Post by Kborg »

Well I have my trannies and chassis now I am getting parts together. I can steal parts from amps I have lying around or buy new.

I would rather not tear up my old PA amps even though I bought them for parts.

Do you recommend specific cap, resistor, tube sockets and why. Also is ther any reason not to use an LED for the pilot light? I just like the look of LEDs.

I am a firm believer that I can learn from the collective experience of others. I know much may be subjective to my own personal taste but I have found that certain things everyone agrees on and I don't feel the need to make the same mistakes everyone else makes in the spirit of learning so........

Please throw your $.02 in and school me.

Thanks.

Double check the Bill of Materials (BOM) here. I believe that it includes suppliers along with the part numbers.

There are also BOMs for the Liverpool and Rocket under the appropriate heading (e.g., Liverpool Documents).

Our very own RJ and Allenmey caters to the Trainwreck builders too. Just search for posts by either to get point of contact information.

Finally, Mouser Electronics and Digikey carry many items you would need.

Have fun,

+1 on Mouser - make sure when you are searching for parts that you have the 'in-stock' button checked. Just a pet peeve, having orders held up for a 10k resistor backordered. I have always used ceramic tube sockets, but am using some belton sockets i na new build - they seem sturdy and come highly recommended.

You might use LEDs powered by heater voltage for pilot lights. You can place a 1N4007 in inverse parallel with LED , so that it conducts on the negative half-cycle (protects LED from reverse voltage breakdown) Select your resistor based on your desired brightness level (20-30mA typ) LED forward voltages are typ 1.7 - 2.2V. I think blue can be higher.

Hey guys thanks for the input so far but my question was more along the lines of alpha vs PEC pots (insert your recommendation here), ceramic vs plastic sockets, which brand of caps and resistors, plastic vs metal 1/4" jacks.....

I have a BOM and sources I just wonder which components are more important from a sonic and reliabity stand point.

It seems to me that pots might be a big deal as would the type of caps, tube sockets on the other hand don 't seem like they would matter.

Just asking before a get my parts together.

Thanks again
