4-40 maybe?
whenever I place one of those boards back on I place a dab of silicone sealer on each nut so they do not back off unless I want them to!

Probably not 4-40 unless someone changed them. They are most likely either a British Whitworth thread or a metric thread. Take one of the screws out and measure it for diameter and thread pitch and see if you can match it up to the specs listed for Whitworth or metric screws.
What?

A quick look at thread standards says if it is 0BA, which was commonly used in electronic equipment, an M6 nut should fit.

6BA most likely.
