Two output Trannies in parallel?

Post by cbass »

So Is there a reason not to connect two Identical OT's in Paralell in a PP amp?
So if I had 2 8k Ot's with 4 and 8 ohm secondaries connected in paralell I could use them at 8k with 8 and 16ohm secondaries?

What are you wanting to run on the primary side? Are these PP or SE OT's?

Its Push-pull AB .I have two OT's from a PP AB stereo amp They are 8k primary with 4 and 8 ohm secondaries.
I am wanting to run them in parallel and have an 8k primary with 8 and 16 ohm seconadary

So what are you saying .It's a stupid Idea? They are like little 12 wat transformers I thought maybe I could get some more headroom and bass response from the amp I'm building (6g3 deluxe)

I'd stick with a single OT. Plus, the output impedances won't add as you plan. Brown Deeluxe hm? Verrry nice indeed and just a pinch away from the Marshall 18W amps. Should be a winner!

For more bass, closed-back speaker cab. 15" speaker too. Hey that's a bass cab - don't tell anybody. Might consider using standard Deluxe replacement OT's if yours look small by comparison. More iron generally = mo bass.
down technical blind alleys . . .

I've got a good beefy old OT I can use. but it will need to be used with a 16 ohm cab .Buying stuff isn't really an option right now.
Is the ot in the brown deluxe the same as the tweed deluxe?

Two OT's connected completely parallel have exactly the same turns ratio so it would still be 8k to 4 or 8 ohm ...

Mumbles is right. Inductance and power ratings change but the ratios don't. To change the ratio you have to go parallel-series or series-parallel, but then the impedances will change by a factor of four.
