I really like his clips. That being said, he's using pedals for OD in most of them, so I wonder what the amp's true tone is.

LOL that amps true tone is 100 fold more than you can imagine. Hes using the pedal to boost. If you think all that depth, width and harmonic complexity comes from a pedal or "fingers" then all you need is a pedal and a crate. Try it and see where that gets ya.
