Hello
i've built dlite 22 and it is playing great with speaker g12 65 creamback, but sometimes i find it too dark and too gainy! is there a way to get more clean from it and any way to change this dark temper?
Thank you all for quick reply! I have some ecc82 and 81 tubes so ill give them a try!
My transformer is classic tone for deluxe http://www.classictone.net/40-18087.html
is it possible to try 6l6 with it? and do i need to change anything or just to swap tubes and rebias?

The whole purpose of a D style amp is to mimic the gain structure and response of the real of the real thing, so why go through the trouble of building a Dumble 80's style circuit and install "Tweed" tubes while using the smallest BF Fender P/P transformer?
Well, you could install two KT88's and won't change the fact that you still only have an 15-20W output transformer. A pair of 6L6 will will just saturate that tiny transformer and make things worse IMHO.
This is real simple, the amp sounds small because it is small! I would install a bigger output transformer for starters.
If you are going to put in a larger OT and 6L6's, please be sure your PT can handle the extra current.
You've stated your using a Classictone Deluxe OT. IF you are using a Classictone Deluxe PT then your current handling may be underrated?
The CT Deluxe PT 40-18021 is only rated 100ma
The CT Deluxe PT 40-18016 is only rated 120ma
I would want a PT with minimum 140ma for using 6L6's/5881's.
I would probably try a 5751 in V1 and a 5751 in V2 and lower the clean channel cathode caps from 10uf to 5uf first. IF that didn't get the tone you're wanting then you can look into upgrading the PT & OT if needed.
With my 22/33 Dlite the 6L6 setup does help with the darkness and more headroom. I do long for that 4 tube big OT thing that really brings on the authentic Dumble tone. Dumbleator on my rig does help overall. Do you have one.
