New ODS chassis from Thailand

Post by Mr. dB »

I stumbled across a site, http://www.solandfa.com/products-OverDr ... hassis.asp , offering an ODS style chassis. I searched here and could find no reference to it. There are some differences from the chassis formerly offered by Natchakom (who is no longer selling chassis, if I understand correctly).

Anyway, the price was right and I decided to take a punt. I ordered the chassis over the weekend, and it arrived from Thailand to Arkansas today, and it looks pretty damned good.

Dimensions are as stated on his site - 19 1/4" W x 2 1/2" H x 9" D. The 9" depth is the one non-standard feature compared to other available chassis, aren't most of them 8"?

Differences from the Natchakom chassis, other than the dimensions - there is enough room on the side flanges for mounting holes, the rear panel has holes for mini-toggle switches instead of Stackpole slide switches, and it's punched for a DIN footswitch jack instead of XLR.

The cutout for the power transformer fits a standard Fender Twin part, but the mounting holes are a little small and need to be reamed out a touch.

At any rate, I just thought you guys would like to know about another chassis source if you didn't already. I was afraid it might be a scam, but I did receive a real product, quickly. I'm just one data point though.

Most of us are aware of it. But we choose to to respect Alexander Dumble by not using his name on a copy of one of his amps.

I understand that, especially for guys building amps for sale. But I've seen plenty of threads with respected forum leaders building amps with the other Thai guy's chassis.

"Forum leaders", maybe years ago when that was the only ODS style chassis available.Nevertheless, the unwritten rule for the majority of us is that we refrain from using a chassis with his name on it, sort of an honor among thieves agreement.

I noticed it says "50 watt" but has 4 octal sized holes.

I guess those errors make it obvious that it's not the real deal then.

I recently came across that site as well, but I was searching for that vox wah pcb.

Looking forward to seeing your build!

Agreed. I also plan to stamp something in the serial number area, along the lies of "CLONE" or "COUNTERFEIT".

Thanks. I'm doing a high plate Skyline, sort of 102/Hybrid-A/ODS101 - ish. I'm still gathering parts, I've got Heyboer iron, a Scumback H75LD speaker, and will have an Amplified Nation combo cabinet in a few weeks. Spent the evening sorting caps for outer foil orientation last night.

Looks like there is going to be a good amount of time spent removing powder coat for ground connections.

Your suppose to mount this chassis from the side but doesn't look like they provide much of a lip on the sides.

Actually there's quite a bit of lip, certainly enough for a #10 KEPS nut underneath.

This is anodized, not powder coated, but I've still got my work cut out for me. That's what Dremels are for...

Not to hijack this thread but the other day I went to the CE Pedals website to order one of their chassis. They appear out of stock. So I sent them an email trying to find out if they are building more. No answer.
The email contact form on their site, when clicked on, throws up a big Virus warning on my browser. So, it makes me wonder if they are in business? Has anyone had any luck getting a chassis recently from them?
If not, what are folks using for building these days?
