Any ideas as to what he used for the solo in Apolitical Blues - the tone is

No, but it's a favorite track & the guitar tone as on most all Feat tracks is scrumptious. Did not know anything about Mick Taylor involvement. I figured it was Lowell or Paul.

A 1970's slide guitar duet featuring one guitarist known for playing Dumbles.
Not sure if this is the reference cited above, but it was interesting to see Lowell and Mick trading slide licks.
Not a Crossroads style head cutting by any means, but interesting.

I think they are both great. I LOVE when Sonny gets together with John Hiatt and has the freedom to play more licks throughout the song.
