Jazz mode is cool??

I've been messing around in Jazz mode, which doesn't seem to have a great reputation here, but it really has some cool sounds. I'm almost getting a clean Marshall sound.... it works great with my Stratocaster. With the overdrive on it has a killer crunch.

The amp I'm using is a straight up 102 copy but with LNFB switched off. I'm running the first volume pretty high like 7.5 and then setting the TMB at like 4-3-4. The OD "in/level" is at like 3 and the OD "out/ratio" is at 4. Master and presence are both at 5 and I'm using the dlator to control the actual volume.

If you haven't experimented with the jazz mode give it a try and don't be afraid to crank the first volume.

Is anyone else here doing this?

Oh, heck yes. Jazz mode is great on my #183 and BluesMaster builds. Makes the amp very Fendery, they way it scoops the mids. Also lightens the bass, which is helpful at home, because my practice space is in the corner of a room.

I agree. I saw Joe BONAMASSA using his two Dumbles with to dimed Tweed twins and he was on OD mode and Jazz mode on the Dumbles for the perfect blend from his guitar volume. I tried it...great

Worked really well with the #183 I just built...and sold

I've been doing a lot of digging on D-Clone overdrive with a strat. I think I even came across a youtube video that you put out on the subject. Thanks for doing that. Regarding jazz mode, I came across an old post by Max that has resulted in the best strat overdrive that I have found so far on my new 183 build. In this post, Max is describing the settings that a strat playing friend uses.

Max says:
"Input Volume always full up (using his guitars volume to back off), bright switch off, deep switch on or off, rock/jazz more often in the jazz position, mid-pot often full up or set high, treble and bass adjusted according to the venue, OD somewhere between 3 and 7 and just enough output volume to smooth and integrate the sound a bit with a bit of power-amp saturation.What he gets by this is a kind of "Jeff Beck" sound (to give you an idea)."

Hey, thanks for watching my video! I will try that a try asap. I think I am going to do a video about jazz mode so I'll see if I can incorporate those ideas. I am going to play this weekends gigs in jazz mode and see what it can do on stage.

Yes. I use Jazz mode all the time when I play live. It's a much more focused and articulate sound IMHO. The key is cranking the input gain and generally running the tone controls higher.

Any feedback Chris? I'm super happy that I came across this info on the jazz switch as I haven't been able to find a sound I like yet. I'm gonna go give it a go later.
