BYX94 diode
I'm wondering about the BYX94 diode used in the Hiwatt DR103 amp, is there any other diode that can substitute for it? I am waiting for the order, but maybe I have some I can use while waiting Post is very slow these days.

Re: BYX94 diode
I have used these a lot: 1N4007: Standard Rectifier, 1000 V, 1.0 A
I recently started using these: 1N5408: Standard Recovery Rectifier, 1000 V, 3.0 A
I am familiar with the sluggish USPS delivery these days. I ordered a tube and a couple of pots 2 weeks ago, 2nd or 3rd business day. It's been two weeks.

Re: BYX94 diode
Thanks for that. So it's sort of a standard rectifier diode?
Re: BYX94 diode
BYX94 is older design 1250V@1A rectifier with designer notes recommending it for the application. 1N4007 spec less tolerant with 1000V@1A. I have been using this 1500V@1.5A rectifier https://www.vishay.com/docs/88567/cgp15.pdf, which is ROHS & readily available from the usual places - Mouser, Digikey, etc. for the modest price of about $0.50 in small quantities.

Re: BYX94 diode
My schematics says 4 byx94's.
Re: BYX94 diode
Hi Sluckey and thanks. Used your AC15 Brilliance switch in my AC15 build. Works great-
Included is the schematics I use fro the DR103 build. I used some diodes I had, but got some pretty glowing 100w lamp limiter at start up, som I am waiting for the new diodes.

Sluckey's not questioning your point. He's pretty sure you're missing his. His point is even the company building them, decided the 1N5408 fulfilled the requirements just as well.Oddvar R wrote: ↑Sun May 09, 2021 2:47 pm Hi Sluckey and thanks. I.e. rectification, is rectification, and so long as you get DC on the other side, it did the needful.

The document I linked to is directly from the Hiwatt company. Here's another Mark Huss drawing...

What is the difference you say?
Re: BYX94 diode
Read the note in the bottom left corner of the schematic.
