In the spirit of giving , here is a Dumble story my friend Jimmy Jackson shared with me .
Back in the 70s he was playing with a local bigger name act whose name escapes me and gigged with a sss for a time , helping Dumble prototype the amp and test drive it so to speak .
He had been playing the amp at gigs , never really getting a chance to fiddle around and understand the amp settings , and was kinda struggling to get it to work for him .
By accident one day he discovered if you position the rock jazz switch in the middle non existent position the amp would come alive . This was then how he began to play the amp live .
Dumble came out to a gig during sound check and was visibly stirred at the sound and bum rushed the stage with his flashlight shining on the amp mid song . He was trying to figure out what Jimmy had done to get that sound . Jimmy shewed him off stage lol and later showed him the trick.
Viola , preamp boost discovered . Bob Ross calls them happy little accidents .
Cheers everyone !
Happy T day

Great story! Reminds me of the of the in-between positions on the original three-way Strat pickup selector, which Billy Gibbons claimed were discovered by Jimi Hendrix.

I love it! We tend to think of our influences as all knowing in their technical knowledge and execution therein , especially a legend like Dr. D, but self evidently innovation can very well result from the opposite .martin manning wrote: ↑Thu Nov 24, 2022 11:22 am Great story!
