Dimarzio Super Distortion

Post by Reeltarded »

I have zero experience with any made after 1984, but I nominate the SD to the Guitar Tone HOF.

I don't understand how it does this thing, but it bursts into harmonic tantrums and cries in sustain with simple effort. This is why we swapped them into 50s Gibsons, to turn Marshalls into alters.

I forgot

I am sorry I forgot

Agreed. I had one in 1978 that killed in the bridge position of every guitar I put it in. Instant ZZ Top in any amp.

I reinstalled the orginal Super II and SD in a koa Mockingbird. Was a Duncan I can't remember and a JB from when JBs were around 9k instead of 17k.

This sounds like guitar.

Hi Miles, I don’t know anything about the history of Seymour Duncan JB pickups. Though going from 9K to 17K is a pretty serious change.

Super Distortions in a Mockingbird? Reminds me of Rick Derringer.

Hi

Rewind pickups make a set of pickups that are supposed to be like the old Super Distortion humbuckers.

Eventually Rick got his own signature set in 1981 - the DP203 & 204 “Stealth”. Really mid-focused and almost as good as an original Super D IMO. They had red bobbins and high polished base plates.

I went down a pre-‘86 BC Rich rabbit hole about 12 years ago and acquired a few Mocks. Two (‘82 and ‘85) were outfitted with the usual DiMarzio Super D bridge and PAF neck combo and the oldest one (early ‘80) oddly came with Seymours - a DC-J bridge and one of those ~9k JBs in the neck. Night and day difference from the modern JB. It was a pretty solid sounding neck pickup.

Still have the ‘82. Great playing guitar.

The Mockingbird and Eagle were quite pleasing original designs.
