High wattage ultrasonic varmint deterrent

Post by BrownIsound »

Looking to dyi a relatively cheap but powerful >20KHz tone setup to mount under the floor of my shed in the backyard. Something like 1000W, or more. Bonus if I can generate 2 dissonant sweep tones on demand.

haha I setup a Marshall 412 in my back yard with a strat on a long switched power run to teach the dogs next door that barking has consequences.

Maybe a good reason to get an ultra linear silverface Twin Reverb….with JBLs…Tele with 1M volume pot, and out of tune strings. Play my version of Van Halen I with a long chord set up in the shed. Or maybe a wireless, and a webcam set up underneath so I know when to bang out some noise.

Back in the '80's i helped cure the local school districts bat problem with ultrasound. The dead space above the classrooms was home for thousands of roosting bats. I found out two maintenance workers were working evenings shooting as many as possible with bb guns, and filling a box every night to reduce the population. I called UGA, county extension agency, searched online, and no source gave the frequency of their sonar. With the shop receiver, a signal generator and two super tweeters from radio shack, I setup over the suspended ceiling. It took two tries but after the 50khz on the second night, they were gone. They fenced up the eaves and all was good.
Try the county agent for info on your particular critters. They may be more helpful than mine were.
