Small world “Z Meter content” ramble

Post by Raoul Duke »

So a few weeks ago I posted a question in my AC30 tune-up thread about capacitor leakage and got some really interesting responses from the good folks here that pushed me to dig into this subject further. There was some talk of test methods and the Sencore LC75 came up casually in the conversation - to which I replied that I always have an eye out for such test equipment for cheep.

Well, the universe responded I guess…

A couple weeks later I saw one on the bay - it looked as though it had fallen out of the back of a truck with a bent handle; but it had an USAF P-MEL tag on it - which means that it was inspected/tested/recalibrated every six months or so while it was in service. The tag is circa 2010-15 or so and the unit had to have been purchased new (the AF doesn’t buy used gear, lol.) So I asked about it and was told it belonged to the seller’s grandfather who bought it (at a DRMO sale I’d imagine) and used it sparingly. So I put in an offer and it was accepted - good deal to boot. Few days later it shows up with the sender’s info on the label indicates I just bought a Z Meter from none other than a “student” of Ken Fischer’s whose initials are “MK” and I think he posts here on TAG as “My-co”. So, I reach back out thank him for the great deal and it turns out he’s very cordial and doesn’t mind me asking questions. Cool.

So I bent the handle back, checked it over real good (super clean inside), recapped it, and went through the user test and calibration process and this thing works great. Really useful and was a great restoration project as well as a handy piece of gear!

Small world…
