If you had $1500 to spend, at what would you be looking? ("looking" meaning checking out specific examples of a guitar model, looking for "the one")
I'd prefer a cutaway, and electrified.
Thanks, folks!

This is a nice one:

$1049 at Dave's Koa "MARTIN" goodness
Larrivee's are really nice too and can be had for that price range. My personal advice is to go to a bunch of shops and try out a BUNCH of guitars. You'll find the right guitar that way as there is a lot of variation within each brand and model.

Re: Recommend an acoustic for me - $1500 price range
Check out some Taylors. I always pick one up when I go into a shop. Haven't come across a dog yet.
They always seem to come setup real well and all bloom wonderfully. I tend to like the smaller auditorium styles as I'm not a big fan of huge boomy acoustics.
I have also been very impressed with Seagulls but im not sure if they have models in that upper price band. (they probably do)

Thanks, folks.
I have tried Taylors also - like the sound, don't like the neck. Too thin for me front-to-back. I need a little chunkier neck to avoid tendonitis, sad to say.
Anyone else? Again, thanks.

I still haven't found an acoustic yet that can beat the Gibson Sheryl Crow Signature model. It's an exact copy of her '62 Country & Western and they're all really, really good---I've played a lot of them extensively! Usually they come with a Fishman Matrix pickup installed and you can get them for around $1500 on Ebay or even from some Gibson dealers.

Larrivee. IMO some of the best new production acoustics in any reasonable price range. The R series guitars are AMAZING instruments for the money. Go somewhere and play a LOT of them until you find a good one.
Re: Recommend an acoustic for me - $1500 price range
I have a Tacoma that I like a lot.
I bought it before Fender took them over so I don't know how they are,
What sold me on this was the fact that they use solid wood (rosewood) on the back and sides and not a laminate.
It was in the price range of an equivalent Martin which had laminates.
Seems like I paid $1100 around 2000 for it.

You can find a used d28 in that price range. The necks are fairly big. I think that the best deal currently is the Masterbuilt Epiphones.
I've got blisters on my fingers!

I have one that is a 2005 model and is brand new and a dream to play. They are hand made and the neck is incredible. email me at bently21706@yahoho.com if you want pictures

Re: Recommend an acoustic for me - $1500 price range
Yep - that's the sticking point...
Partly because - that's how much I've saved up for this purchase.
And partly because I'd be even MORE fearful of playing out with a more expensive guitar, and I think I can find some pretty good acoustic tone in that price range.

I haven't found any at my local stores, so I haven't had a chance to play one yet, but have heard them.
Some of my favorite players use them.

+1 on the Larrivee. You'll get a little variance, but find a dealer and play every one in the store. You're sure to find a $1200 guitar that sounds like a $3000 one.

I think it's possible to get a OM/PW or a D/PW used at that price sometimes?
