Split cab
I'm intending to split the wiring of a 4x12 and run two amps into the same
cab, nothing fancy, a/b the amps through the same cab.
Has anybody experienced any issue's doing this?
You should have seen my wife's eyes when I brought it out of storage. I got
the "are you really gonna play thru that" look. I've had the local constable
knocking at my door telling me the neighbor's cow's are gettin' worked up
because of the thing, a long time back, but still.
I have a gig where I have to play with a very loud keyboard, and a single 12"
just doesn't cut it.

I have two Peavey 4x12 stereo cabs and a/b my Liverpool and Rocket or Express and Stangray for testing but have not done this live as the small clubs won't allow me to use that kind of coverage, rats.
But for this summer's street dances and other gigs the 4x12 cabs are used. I have even used 2x12 closed back in stereo as well makes for easy transport and use two heads.
Lately my gigging rig has changed so many times since joining this forum and building these amps, it gets confusing for me. And then there is speaker selection.

Re: Split cab
So it is practical. I'll have it split with 2 greenbacks on on side and 2 g12s
on the other. The lower wattage amp of the two will use the greenbacks, its
around 40w, high gain with a master. The other is around 75w and should be
within the handling of of 2 g12, fat and very simple amp using kt90.
I like to push the drivers, somethings there for tone. Transport is a consideration.
I don't have to worry about the venue, or rest of the group, I'm the
conservative one in regards to volume.

Re: Split cab
New issue. Using an A/B switch on the front creates a ground loop between
the two amps and hums like a ****er. I'm gonna have to review the grounding
scheme on the front end of both amps and the double check the
power side, both are fine alone. Maybe isolate the grounds at the switch.
Its a pickle. The cab sounds fine, although I prefer an open back for the clean tone.

Re: Split cab
I use the Radial Bone A/B/Y switcher that has built in ground lift switch. Also you can use a cheater plug to reverse one of the amps.

Get out your DVM at the venue and verify you don't have any potentials (AC or DC) over a couple of volts between your guitar strings or amp chassis and anything else you might wind up touching.M Fowler wrote:Also you can use a cheater plug to reverse one of the amps.
Re: Split cab
Last night I used two 2x12 openback cabs, my Asteroid 60 and TW Rocket with my A/B/Y box and had no ground loops or need to use cheater plug. I had no issues and great tone.

Re: Split cab
+1 for the radial. Great boxes. I also use a bigshot to run my signal thru 2 amps, the ground lift is essential.

Build your own!
RG has a couple designs. I built this one: http://geofex.com/FX_images/spltr2.gif
But he has an updated one here:

I've used mine with no problems at all, and a heck of a lot cheaper than a Radial

Man, those Lehle loopers are very nice and look to be very versatile.malt wrote:http://www.lehle.com/frameset.php?M Fowler wrote:What the name of that other company Thiele or something like that. It is subposed to be a great box as well.

Not really extravagantly priced either, for what they do.

Andy, sorry, I don't want to hijack your thread, but while we are on the subject of A/B/Y...soma_hero wrote:Build your own!

Lehle makes the 1 @ 3 box (see enclosed picture) which allows routing of one signal to 3 amps or whatever you might need 3 of. I have seen R.G. Keen's A/B/Y design and am wondering if anyone might have an adaptation of that to essentially make it the same as the Lehle 1 @ 3. Or, barring a functional design, any help/suggestions on what would be needed convert R.G.'s design into an A/B/C only.
Thanks, in advance for any help.
