Komet questions

Post by Tonegeek »

1)The Komet chassis look like they are welded from discrete pieces of 1/8" aluminum versus being bent using a brake and then welded. Is that correct? Anyone interested in making a chassis for me? PM me, if so.

2) What type and guage of wire is used in these amps?

3) Where can I get a tranny set? I know they are Heyboers, but do they sell direct?
thanks

Allynmey on this site, had some of the welded aluminum chassis built. Try to contact him directly.

Moose, also on this site, sells the Heyboer trannnys.

Typically, #22 wire for everything but the heaters, which should be #18.
Some builders prefer Teflon coated,..some the PVC coating, and preferences vary between solid VS stranded. I don't think I've ever heard much on the any major sonic advantages of either,..it's usually which is easier to use.

I'm out of the chassis for the time being. I may have another run made.

The wire is Teflon coated 20AWG solid core.

The trannys are available from Heyboer. The numbers are on this site somewhere. If you call them they'll probably know what you are looking for. Remember the K60's use a 5.8K primary anf The Concorde uses a 4.8K primary the choke and power are the same.

tonegeek- i just called heyboer last week about this tranny set as i believe there was a group build a while back and they had a few made to the komet specs. the guy i talked to said he'd "look around" to see if there were any left, but he never called me back. If there's anyone else interested, maybe we should place another bulk order. Plan B- triode electonics has some trannies that are very close to the Komet specs as well, and they are very reasonably priced ($99.95). The PT model is Dynaco PA135 370-0-370 with taps for 5VAC and 6.3VAC. I am still looking for a 5.8K OT, although I know the toneslut OT's are 5.6K. Anyone interested in a Heyboer order, PM me.

In case you don't already have them, I'm pretty sure that the Heyboer Komet transformer numbers are:

Power transformer HTS-8593
Output transformer HTS-5526-1RH
Choke HTS-7750-1

When I inquired last year, the total cost was in the $280 to $300 range, as I recall. If you email Heyboer with the part numbers, they'll quote a price and lead time.

Data I have received on the trannies is slightly different and shows:
Power transformer HTS-8593
Output transformer HTS-5526
choke HTS-7550

I will send Heyboer an email too. Maybe if we bombard them with enough spam, they will respond.

Thanks to all for the responses.

Anyone have a voltage chart for the concorde? Trying to figure out the differences between my K60 and the concorde.
