New JTM50 build - Thank You Jelle!

Post by HeeBGB »

Finished up a project that I started 3-4 years ago. For whatever reason I got very lazy as far as amp building is concerned. I have started a number of projects and then lost interest in them so they sat incomplete. This is one of them. I had the chance to hang with Jelle and we all but finished it. I had to finish the center tap for the heaters and the common for the line voltage.

Fired it up last night took some voltages and set the bias. Had an issue with the impedance selector wiring and had to re-wire it. I thought it was a bad OT and tacked in an Asteroid 60 OT that I have here (hence the other thread asking about the wire colors for that OT - Thanks again Mark). Anyway, it worked with the Asteroid OT. After it worked with Asteroid OT I soldered in the original again without the selector and it worked so I re-installed the selector and lo and behold it sounds like a Marshall. I need to do some tweaking so with the selector issue plus the tweaking stage it is still a bit messy in there. And yes that is diode recto's in series with a 5AR4.

A big Thank You to Jelle Welagen for pushing me and helping to get it done

Very nice, i like it i like it a lot :P. I see you left yourself space on the board for moving to a spilt cathode arrangement if you wanted in future, good plan. Love how these amps can so easily be transformed into later models, so many options! I really really really want to build myself one of these but at the moment am having a hard time justifying the cost as my band isn't currently gigging. But one day!

Way cool 8)

I like the option of switching between split/shared cathode, but usually wind up leaving it split.

Looks good to me. A nice addition to anyone's arsenal.
Series diodes are a good idea. A very good idea.
Well done.

Well done, Greg! Looks purdy.
I use diodes with my recto tube also, though I use two UF5408s mounted right on the tube socket.
What are you going to finish up next?

Actually I had the bright cap in. I took it out trying to find an issue and haven't put it back in yet. I am in tweaking phase now so things will change
