Check the search link above, there is an enormous amount of information to be mined on this site. You're still new, but folks will be a lot more inclined to help if you have made an effort to search and find some answers on your own.

No worries, it takes a few tries to start getting the gold out of the mine. FWIW, I searched on 16ohm AirBrake Search For All Terms.LedZepp007 wrote:I actually did search, believe it or not. Re: DIY Airbrake...
Interestingly I think I read most of the threads that you directed me to (the KF letter I had not seen). I remember that someone staunchly was saying that you can't use the Airbrake with 16 ohm cabs (or shouldn't). I just don't want to accidentally burn my apartment building down.Colossal wrote: No worries, it takes a few tries to start getting the gold out of the mine. FWIW, I searched on 16ohm AirBrake Search For All Terms.
Also it's irritating when people don't use the search button (or well). I will try to do better. It's less about my searching and more about my electrical ignorance. I'm trying to improve my ignorance. Right now I'm thinking about building an Airbrake first, then a Champ, then a TW. Right now I'm just collecting some tools and stuff that won't drive my fiance (and dog) crazy.

Mod Dr Z Airbrake? Reduce more db
Hi All,
I have built the Airbrake on mind of 2011. It works good until now but I need to reduce more db.
I play on 5 Watt amps; Epiphone Valve Special and Guyatone GA-330D. If I turn my Airbrake to Bedroom, my amps are still to loud (Play late night in the small app.), I only can turn 25% of the volume without disturbing my wife and my kids. My question, is it correct? Actually, airbrake should reduce until 30db.
Can I add more resistor to reduce more db, so that I can play 80% - 90% of the volume. Which Resistor values should I take? or How can I calculate it? (L-Pad Calculator)?
Any Idea?
Thanks a lot.
regards

Schema and Layout
Here are the layout and schematic. Both are not from me, I just attached it for you. I used its to built my Airbrake on March 2011. It works good but now I need to reduce more db. I'm thinking to put more resistors.Sokrbat wrote:First post, could I get a copy of schem, please? skotwarren@gmail.com
I hope it helps you.

Re: DIY Airbrake...
Hi,
my version was the one with Rheostat. It works for Bedroom level.
Dou you think, I can put the other 250 Ohm before the rheostat or can I put a 470 Ohm Rheostat instead 150 Ohm?
My aim is to get more attenuation for my 5 watt amps. If I use my overdrive pedal, I only can play at max. 25 % of my amps volume without disturbing my wife and kids in the night. I guess, I need to attenuate around 40db.
I tried to re-calculate using (L-Pad): http://www.diyaudioandvideo.com/Calculator/LPad/ (Impedance Z= 8 Ohm, my Amp power = 5 watt, wished attenuation =40 db), then I got Rserial = 7.92 Ohm and Rparallel = 0.008 ohm. The result confuses me . Dr. Z Airbrake uses Rserial (with max. Rheostat) = 175 Ohm in Bedroom position and Rparallel = 25 ohm. I don't know, how Airbrake calculated. Actually, I just want to make sure, which value should take for the rheostat or resistor to get around 40 db attenuation.
regards

Re: DIY Airbrake...
Sorry to resurrect this thread but i finish my trainwreck express conversion build & I wanted to build this airbrake but use 100w resistors as they are fairly cheap compared to the rheostats .
Any one have a schematic & bom ,my wreck only has the 16ohm tap so i need to make it with 16 ohm an 8 ohm if possible

Re: DIY Airbrake...
How well does the Airbrake work in relation to reducing volume and maintaining the timbre of the amp?
It seems there are better sounding attenuators available as far as I can tell from other threads on this forum.

Same as with any other dumb attenuator. Two clicks off the top and you aren't loud enough for the guitar to be excited.
Signatures have a 255 character limit that I could abuse, but I am not Cecil B. DeMille.
Re: DIY Airbrake...
I happen to have 30 Ohm instead of the required 25 Ohm power resistors.
Would this be a problem for the Airbrake?
Please teach me.
Thanks
