Black under layer applied - RIT dye - which will be sanded back then scarlet rubbed in before lacquer.

Very cool. That maple is realy going to pop when you clear coat it.

Stunningly beautiful! THANKS for sharing the photos!
Question ………….. do you use the RIT dye in the same manner that you'd use analine dye for wood? Anything to be aware of using the RIT dye instead of analine?

I use a piece of tee shirt and rub it like it owes me money. If you get streaks take a damp paper towel and gently wipe to pull up the excess. I find it raises the grain less than most dyes. After I sanded back the black and stuck on two doses of scarlet I didn't have any raised grain.Question ………….. do you use the RIT dye in the same manner that you'd use analine dye for wood? Six coats of lacquer - I had to drag it outside to get decent pics.
Waiting at TOP SPEED for my epoxy and colors order from 9 days ago!!!!!

IF you've never tried Windex to remove streaks or mistakes with analine dye, give it a try on some test piece of dyed wood. That's what I use building guitars and doing sunbursts.
THANKS for your response! I am understanding this to mean the RIT dye and analine dye are fairly similar in use.
I can't think of a cabinet any prettier then that one. Really fantastic!

Awesome, yes. The outcome is amazing. I wish your epoxy and colors will ship faster than my resistors...
Re: Fiddleback Maple JMP 2203 headshell
I've got the case dyed and finished but ground to a halt on the logo filling. Dyed and waiting lacquer.
Here are some sunlit pics and they barely do the finish justice.
The logo was killing me as I really wanted to use a silver filler but the epoxy absorbed too much dye for it to be seen. In a moment of desperation I swiped it with acetone and viola there it is.
Since I paused to figure the logo out I was distracted by another cab build.

I'm confused, isn't the logo on the front valence which is not dyed?
Re: Fiddleback Maple JMP 2203 headshell
The plan is to do the two tone dye job after I fill the logo with silver tinted epoxy. The piping may get some silver rubbed on and sealed with lacquer so it sorta blends with the logo.

In the end I shoulda used 2X more tinting powder but it serves its purpose. Dyed black and sanded back for the under color.
Dyed scarlet, lacquered and the piping added.
Stuck in the headshell.
Still needs feet, a handle and a JMP2203 stuffed in...

Very nice work Russ. I have to say that it is downright inspirational!
