Beginning my Liverpool build!
Here the arrival of all the parts for my Liverpool build. After seeing Pete Thorn's video, I knew I had to build one. I got all the parts from Michael at Modulus Amplification. I've done a few of his amps previously, so I trust his judgment. F&T and Orange Drop caps were supplied. Looking forward to this one for sure! If anyone has any opinions, recommendations, criticisms, I'm welcome to it all. I realize there's a special mystique around these amps, so I'm hoping to capture a bit of that magic with this build.

Re: Beginning my Liverpool build!
I hate to say it but having the output transformer that close to the preamp tubes may create problems.

Yeah I hear that. I've contacted Modulus to ask if it's the correct way to mount it.wpaulvogel wrote: ↑Thu Jan 05, 2023 3:17 am I hate to say it but having the output transformer that close to the preamp tubes may create problems.

Re: Beginning my Liverpool build!
This is how the Rocket clone pictured on Modulus' website. He doesn't have a Liverpool kit pictured currently. He customized this kit for me. Mine doesn't have a rectifier tube, and will have a presence pot. Does the positioning of the OT here make more sense?

Re: Beginning my Liverpool build!
The PI tube is way less sensitive to noise injection. It's running at much higher current and voltage by then and so likely not an issue...

I did the "headphone trick" to determine the best placement for the OT. I gotta say, Modulus' recommended placement is spot on. It produced the least amount of hum of anywhere on the chassis.

Don't count your chickens before they hatch. Just wait 'til you wire up those preamp tubes!Ledvedder5150 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 07, 2023 2:51 am I did the "headphone trick" to determine the best placement for the OT. No worries. I'll leave long enough leads if it's an issue after the build is done.sluckey wrote: ↑Sat Jan 07, 2023 2:55 amDon't count your chickens before they hatch. Re: Beginning my Liverpool build!
The revised/unusual placement for the OT is surprising, to say the least. Trainwreck(s) are extremely optimised amps, according to the legend. There seems to be very little margin for modifications, beyond using cap cans to avoid the stack thing, does it seem ...

Re: Beginning my Liverpool build!
I'm still contemplating moving the OT. But until then, I've been slowly doing some work on it.

Re: Beginning my Liverpool build!
The input is supposed to be sensitive up to the edge of unstable on these amps, according to what I could read here. Therefore, the hum may well be a minor problem when the build will be finished, or you'll be forced to tame the input and risk loosing that "trick".
How about you keep mounting the amp but being prepared to move the OT latter on, so not much trouble so far?
Great project, by the way!
