Mystery ODS Tube

Post by UltraHookedOnPhonix »

Came upon this picture of a 50W EL34 ODS.

Something caught my eye next to the power transformer. Something that looks like either an EZ81/6CA4 rectifier or a 03C/VR105 voltage regulator tube.

What do you guys spy?

Also, I read somewhere that it uses Mercury Magnetics iron. Wonder which? :o

Slightly to large for a 6ca4, I'd hazard a guess at a cap-can of some sort but my eyes aren't the best. Strange place for a can anyways.

I think you're right but like tonelab2 noted, that's a strange place for it. Usually it's seen placed in front of the preamp board near the pots and since this in all likelyhood has the precision power supply, I wonder which cap in the dropping string is taken all the way into the corner of the chassis. Hmm...

Looks to be about the right size for a GZ34 / 5AR4 Rectifier

I don't believe that amp is a Dumble. The back panel says "OD 100W" on the far right, yet only sports 2 power tubes. Also, the panel "paint" just doesn't look right to me.
Or, I could be wrong......

I think you are right, normally it would have DUMBLE next to the footswitch jack. Maybe that is a funk chassis

You can clearly see it says OD 50W on the back panel.

That is the runny krylon amp that was up for sale a couple of years ago down in the southeast US Dogears may have more information.
Probably is the REAL DEAL with a rectifier

Why would a Tube rectifier have a shield? they run awfully hot to defeat any possibility of convection cooling, My guess it that it is the first stage filter cap, looks like a Mallory Cap can to me.

I wasn't being disrespectful. I have seen that amp before (now after seeing tthe front panel). I think over at Bill or Ron's sites.
