That's barely above 50% on Tags amp, no?

Hmmm, I may have to get my screwdriver out.... :)
Tags amp sounded better biased cold. When Shad was there, he raised the bias, but after playing for a few hours, Tag figured he liked the colder bias more. and TKT. 8) Its still set at the hotter bias, and Brad should have it lowered. More harmonics, more note bloom, and a much softer feel. By the way....Fords or Tags amp? No one loves Blue line Ford more than I, and Tags amp beats that hands down. New Ford tones? (Post Blue moon) Who cares...IMO they suck. :cry:

I believe it was made for a studio owner.
On one hand, that's very dull...on the other, sort of interesting because it could have been designed for a range of guitar pickups.

Tag, why are you referring to yourself in 3rd person?

Also, why should Brad have it lowered? Does he now own it? ;)

Yep not a very wicked cool story but I too suspect maybe he voiced it to cover more common ground not knowing what or whom might play it.

Sure plays that way. It is super plug and play friendly imho.

Holy crap! I go away for a few hours and come back to more first hand info than I've seen here in a while, thanks (even though I'm not supposed to say that).

Couple of observations, I've played a lot with .01, .02 and .05 on V2A coupler, trying to encourage an amp to bloom a bit more. I settled on .02 as the best balance, .05 started to get muddy and undefined to me. This was on a high plate 6L6 skyliner amp.

No bright cap on the TKT amp? Could one surmise it's not necessary due to lack of LNFB on V1 and the 25pF snubbers on V2?

Do we have an actual reading for the bias that made Tag's amp sound so fine? :wink:

OT - I recently documented a beautiful, chimey sounding EL34 based Anderson amp that was biased at 25mA.

Shad took readings of everything, and I mean everything about 5-6 times, and about 5-6 different ways. Tag may know tone but Shad knows #183. :)

@ talbany:

Hi Tony,

AFAIK RF used different ODS with different series numbers over the years. And AFAIK he sometimes even used the ODS amps of other musicians for his recordings.

@all:

Because of this it would be really interesting what amp you refer here to as beeing the "the RF amp" (On which track of which record?)? About which amp you are all talking about here as "the RF amp"?

@dogears:

Hi Scott,

Here http://ampgarage.com/forum/viewtopic.ph ... 934#130934 you wrote:
In fact, RFs amp is unplayable without the loop and cables.

Is this because you are talking of two different RF amps, one that you did not like without a Dumblelator and special cables (Dumblelator thread) and one that you did like even without a Dumblelator in the loop (this thread)?

Or do you like both amps - the one of Robben Ford (# unknown up to now) and #183 only with a Dumblelator in its loop and you don't like both of them without the Dumblelator?

@Mac Daddy,

Hi Mac Daddy,

may I ask, how all the clips of #183 you've posted here and in the "reference thread" have been recorded? With or without a Dumblelator and special cables in the loop to "tame the highs"? And thru what kind of cabinet / speakers?

All the best,

Max

Hi Max,

We had the loop and cables running with RF's amp. Set up that way, it was not bright.

183 was using no loop. No need with no bright cap. However, the great YouTube of pinner playing Miller's Son, was with the loop. We had to engage the return bright switch to get a useable recording. Sounded amazing that way!
