From what I see so far:

1. He can play guitar, especially "politician".
2. He is on a tone quest and we are privileged to witness.
3. He has a real Dumble therefore should be revered and catered to.
4. He builds nothing.
5. He shares nothing except clips of him playing his amps.
6. He seems to irritate some of the heavy hitters on TAG.

Is there anything I'm missing?

I'm still recovering from the "warble" scandal over on TGP and it's brief life here so I want to make sure that I know the terms of engagement before I get sucked into another colossal waste of time.

With some humor.......... some

Your post seems like a waste of time to me. I am not going to share pictures of the inside of my amp. Is that a pre-requisite for joining here? If so, please show me the section where every members amps insides are clearly shown. What some info on my amp? It is a Skyline, has EL34s, Non HRM, and a Marshall and Fender style transformer. It has a 3 way bright switch and a 50/100 setting.

Yes it remarkable that we hear a lot about TAG, his Dumble amp and thereof stressfull financial situation. However, he has not yet had the courtesy to present a gut shot or two of the icon, for people here to enjoy and learn from......

May I suggest your next tune would be 'Belly Bottom Window' by Jimi Hendrix a good tune on par with 'Politician'
No hard feelings, but seriously, If you want a gut shot of a Dumble, buy one. You think I spent 55K on an amp to show you exactly what is inside so you can try and clone it? Get real. Very few raw clips with zero studio trickery of Dumbles around, and I am posting as many as I can. Listen to the tone and learn. If someone manages to get it dead on, I will be happy to sell mine and get my $$ back. I bought it for one reason, and one reason only. The tone. I would have LOVED to have found it for a far cheaper price. I have been searching for years and years and the Emerald Pros and stock customs are the closest amps I have found. Still searching!
WOW!!!
Everybody get that...

Let me try typing a lil' slower for you, Tag...

Every one of those amps is different - even the Dumbles. Each one is built for a purpose - a guitarist's preference for a characteristic attack, choice of pickups, favorite guitar, preferred cabinets, loss of hearing, stadiums vs studios...

If you know what you want, it is time to talk to a builder and get something made for you rather than chasing around every other dog to find out where it's been.

I hope you find what you need - I believe the talent you need to connect with is here at AmpGarage. Clips to stroke your ego about your latest acuisition won't help you either find the amps of your dreams or help anyone advance their knowledge of ampbuilding so no value added there.

G'luck in your quest.

Respectfully disagree. I have played enough Dumbles to know that they are very similar in their basic sound. I am looking for one that sounds a LOT like Robben Fords, but it can have its own personality as well. Kind of like mine. Just checking every amp I can find to see if one is out there. As I said, I have not quite gotten there yet.

nickm57 wrote:As I have stated in the past. You cannot asses the feel of an amp from a bad MP3 sound clip with bad Backing tracks.
You know guys spend allot of time Mixing and mastering these records you are comparing your tones too. Not only that each instrument has had as much thought put into it as the "beloved lead guitar track" sometimes allot more!

Most professional players don't and can't afford to churn through that amount of money to find a sound off someones else record. I'm buying Robben Fords elusive and very expensive talent box.....ha

What is needed for all builders is working with players who have a concept of what works for them. The builders job is then to interpret, turn it into resistors and cap values, so everyone can make music.
Why not move this thread to Garage talk.

Well, I think you are right, and I have found a builder I am going to work very closely with. I will post clips when its all together. This is going to be some ride!

But seriously...

You're in the wrong place.

The Gear Pages: "What did you buy?"

The Amp Garage: "What did you build?"

You don't get it, Tag. If you had anything going on, you could talk to any good builder of this style amp and nail what you want. All you seem to do is say "Nope, that ain't it. Get another rock."

What I find funny is that top artists when interviewed say my amp does it all and under the same breath talk about the effect racks and pedals they use to get their tone.

Get a nice pedal board and run it into a Bass amp and you nailed your tone. :)

Yes, I'm afraid I am going to have to agree with the general sentiment here.
Tag, with all due respect, this is a builders forum.
Sure we like to see if we can cop the tone of a $50K amp for a little over $1K.
That's what we do and have fun doing it and talking about it.
I'm glad you are fortunate enough to have the real deal.
But to me it seems you are trying to fill an empty hole, one that will never be satisfied.

So I guess what I am trying to say is, what do you bring to the table here?
Most of the pro builders here have shared information and photographs.
But you have to think your competition is also looking at that same information, so I can see the hesitance that has started appearing here.
No sense taking the bread off of your own table just to share with some hobbyists.
But I know for a fact, if this forum didn't exist, you probably wouldn't be seeing any Two Rocks or Fuchs clones.

So maybe The Gear Page is the best place for you, so you can impress the masses with your chops and expensive gear.
We're just a bunch of tube heads that gather to have fun with the marvelous Thermionic Vacuum Tube. :D

I wish you well.
Tom

+1,

I'm not impressed with someone paying 50K for an amp, I'm impressed that Mr. D wat able to coax +50k's worth of tone out of 500k's worth of amp parts.

1. It's my time
2. I'm not interested in the inside of your amp, there's more than enough info here for a lifetime of builds.
3. I'm glad you've spent 55k on an amp, Congratulations! I turned down two one at 18K and one at 22K ............. because it's just an amp. While there are those who will spend that money, they're not here.

I'm really not interested in a pissing contest with anyone, I was simply pointing out that the tome and content of your posts are not in keeping with the nature of the forum. That seems to be the general sentiment.

Not interested in a pissing contest, yet you start it and keep coming back! LOL!
What a bunch of cry babies. All because I will not post pics of the real thing nor think any clones nail the sound of a real Dumble. Well, fact is they do not. Get back to work kids, you have a long way to go. Later.

what do you want from this forum?

Post by llemtt »

after reading TAGs posts within this and a few other threads there is something that doesn't make sense to me

basically TAG says:

I own a >50k$ ODS that has the right "dumble" sound I was looking for years (the Gene's tan ODS being the only other one on a par with it)

It's a pity that no other amp builder still has got this right...

If ˜someone˜ get it right with a clone costing 10 times less I will sell my ODS and keep that amp [this seems what he wants]

but... I don't want to share [at least within this forum] any "relevant" technical detail about my ODS that can help accomplish the task!

so TAG my question is -> what do you want from this forum?

cheers
teo

p.s. maybe should I rewrite from above like this?
It's a pity that another amp builder still hasn't got this right...

Yeah!! We should be really grateful for those here that have shared... If not of actual shots schematics etc aside...Just general comments interpretations, tweaks or experiences with the actual amps...Try and not be resentful to those who don't share everything..This is a wonderful place...
