Did Jim Messina use Dumble

I was listening to L&Ms "Angry Eyes" this PM and thought Messina's tone sounded very Dumble-ish. It didn't sound like it was played loud in the studio, but had that singing thing and a nice compressive response. Does anybody know what amp he used (or was it lots of expensive studio gear)?

In concert he used Fender's, usually Supers. I have no idea what he recorded with, but I'd bet he played direct.

FWIW: Jim used an older Tele/broadcaster and tuned down from E
I got this from a close friend who had Jim Messina for a producer and co-player. Fender was the amp usually used.

Thanks for the responses. No big deal, but after playing D and T type amps, I hear some things now that I didn't used to notice. Anyhow, the guitar sound on that song is great. If you haven't heard it in a while download it from the internet (legally of course )

I was just thinking about your post and thought I would mention another recording jim did. Loggins & Messinas "you need a man". During the first part of the song jims guitar is "dry" till the solo where a lot of reverb and a wah pedal is used and remains in use till the end. You can hear the transition back to a dry sound so typical of the Tele especially with jims style of playing. Back in the day that WAS the tone a lot of players around here wanted including myself. After a truck load of custom pickups it turns out all I needed was stock pickups and a good Fender Twin.....go figure! So now I have three pickups for my Tele, one stock, one Seymoure Duncan made for me and an exact duplicate of Roy Bucanans "Nancy" pickup I'm waiting for to arrive. The funny thing is, I'll probably never change the pickups again as I like the way it sounds now!
FWIW...if you like the tone, the Tele sound and blues, there is one other guy you might want to listen to, his name is Don Preston. I met and played with Don years ago in Orange county, Ca. I don't know if you can find any of his recording but if you listen to "Lets Go Get Stoned" on the Joe Cocker Mad Dogs and Englishmen album, you can hear Don in the background. there is a guitar thats loud in the begining but about half way through there is a low in the music and way in the back you'll hear that Tele of don's....no mistaken his style! hope you enjoy.
