Amp Cradles: make one or buy one?
Do you guys make your own; do you want to share some pictures? My dilemma is that I would have to buy some decent fur, birch, poplar, or even some ply might work. I would need to make it adjustable, would need some type of rubber feet and rubber strips where chassis meets cradle. Would need to buy some hardware but not much. I do not have much in the way of "woodworking" tools. I just have a circular saw and a hand saw. No chop saw, dove tail, chisel or router. But maybe I am making this seem harder than it is. What do you guys think.
Thank You

Simple amp cradles
They can be as simple (or elaborate) as you wish.....here's an example of extremely simple, which seems to be what you are looking for(?)>>>>>

Here's the one I built for myself- very similar to the DST Engineering unit that I think Ted Weber now sells.....
Mine has Lazy Susan bearing assemblies on each end that allow me to rotate the amp to the working angle I want.

Nice Ron.
Do you just squeeze it tight between the arms to hold the chassis in place?

Hey -
Thanks for the replies and pictures. The cradle with the pivoting ends would be real nice when you are working on components that are mounted on the chassis sides (pots, jacks, etc.)
Thanks Again

Tom-
There's 2 support brackets that are mounted to the bearing assemblies- they have an L shaped "shelf' that the chassis rests on.
It does not work as it's constructed with the TW- the trannies are located too close to the edge and the amp can't rest on the "shelf"- I will need to mod it. I built it when I was doing virtually all Fender amp work, and it's great for their chassis.....

I saw this older thread about Amp Cradles and thought I'd post a set of plans for one that I'm getting ready to build.
Seems pretty cool.
Enjoy!

Yes, that is a good way to build the cradle.
I have those same plans.
Make sure to have the arms so the amp chassis is back a ways from the center line of the cradle.
When I first built mine the whole works wanted to flip over because of the uneven weight distribution due to the transformers.
So I made two more arms, longer and further back on the end with the stops.
Also make sure it is tall enough so you can put a chassis with tubes in it that hang down and don't hit anything.

Amp Cradle
I recently bought one from Trinity Amps in Toronto. I don't have enough time to build amps, let alone amp cradles. This is very similar to those above, made of basswood.

There have been several threads about cradles:

David Root, I've got the same soldering iron you have in your pic. I've been happy with it. Do you like yours?

Brandy bottle.
That is my very elegant way of getting water to the pad on the soldering station! The dispenser makes it very easy and doesn't drip. (The brandy was nice while it lasted though!).
Yes I like those bloo Wellers, I have two of them, the other one is on my other small bench.
